+1K users!

Hi everyone! I am Joan, maker of Mindful Affirmations app.

Finally today after a month of hard work, Mindful Affirmations app has crossed 1K signed up users!

Things we learned during this time:

  • It's really hard to position yourself in the AppStore when your competitors have thousands of reviews and unlimited cash.

  • It's important to keep updating your app and playing with the keywords. One of the things that worked better for us was finding a very good keyword with not much competition.

  • Move fast and focus on one thing at the time. There's many many new features and fixes we want to do in the app but we can't lose focus on that. Our goal now is keep growing and increase revenue, when that is accomplished we can move on into the shiny things.

  • Invest all your revenue in acquiring new users. New users means more revenue so you can get even more users. This seems obvious, but we were so tempted to use that money on something else.

What's next?

We will keep working in making the app easier to discover. Improving your positioning in the AppStore is key, is definitely our main focus now. We know that when we start positioning our selves better, users will come. We have improved a lot the flow from signup to a paying user now, so we feel ready to grow in a sustainable way.

Thanks to everyone who tried the app, who gave feedback and who is using it or has used it.

May I know what is your CPI for Apple Ads?

The reason I'm asking so because I'm having CPI $0.01 to $0.10 (vary by countries) for Google Ads. Just wanna compare how other ecosystem work out.

With the basic ads you only pay per download and numbers are a lot higher than that. On the bright side, users normally are very well targeted so we get our money back! :)

Hows your retention going? If your retention is low then acquiring new users wont be enough. Good luck with your app. I released 3 apps and feel your pain. ASO was key for me too but getting my retention up was too hard and I ultimately called it a day

Hi James! Retention is not too bad, we can definitely improve on that but I think our retention numbers are pretty acceptable. Of course we always want more but we still have active users from the first week we launched (which amazes me!).

Thank you for the kind words Alex!
I'm trying Instagram and Twitter but unfortunately I don't have enough time to put the effort social media deserves (and demands!). You are right, installs and reviews are uber important for the ranking, I did some implementation in the app to ask for reviews to improve on that way.

Thanks! I mainly use Apple SearchAds, they work pretty well. Value for money is one of the best channels I found.

Same! I thought I could do better with the advanced campaign but not at all! Also, with the basic you only pay by download, which is great.

I've also messed around a bit with advanced keywords. Maybe I should try the basic ads. Can I still do that from an advanced keywords account or will I need to sign up for a basic ad account?

Are you experiencing a positive ROI from Apple Ads?

I just released an iOS habit tracker on Product Hunt (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/habitual) and I have a super hard time ranking for any keywords. Do you have any tips or tricks?

Did you get most of your users through your Product Hunt release, Apple Ads or do you have any other channels you use?

And big congrats with the 1000 users :-).

Hi! Definetly try the basic ads! You can do it even if you have Advanced, for us basic search ads resulted in more and better downloads for less money. Totally recommended!
