Finalized First Product Design

I decided that I wanted to start off with a heated jacket. Heated jackets do exist for motorcyclists - but I wasn't a fan of the technical or aesthetic design of any of them. I took a nanoengineering grad course as an engineering undergrad, and I knew there are better material alternatives that generate heat. But I wasn't sure how to approach this at all. Should I find an investor first? Should I spec everything out? Make a website? I eventually made a website and designed a version of the product that I could build on my own.
