I wanted to create a tool that manages a lot of your source files, such as icons, brand files, colors and so on. To begin Norde Source will be focusing on managing icons and making it easy to make them fit your brand.

May 11, 2020 Finally launched on Product Hunt

I'm launching 1.0 of my app, Norde Source, today on Product Hunt. I would appreciate it if you would support it.

Although there is still a lot to do, Norde Source has already proven itself by helping people get their job done by fitting nicely into their workflow.

That is why I decided it was time for something more official. This version doesn't bring any substantial new features or anything like that; it's more that it has been stable and rather bug-free for a while. In my opinion, that's the best time to bump it up to 1.0.

Now there is a Pay What You Want pricing for the app. So if you want to support the development of the product, you can choose to pay any amount you like.

February 22, 2020 Added multi-color editing

The main feature that separates Norde Source from the competition is finally complete. Now it only takes a few seconds to recolor an entire icon set, even when it has multiple colors. It detects each color in the set and allows you to override it quickly for the entire set. That makes recoloring icon sets that use a few different colors, a breeze.

December 10, 2019 Finished MVP! 馃帀

I just finished and released my MVP on https://norde.io

The landing page isn't much to look at at the moment and Norde Source is far from complete and full of bugs but it does do the bare minimum of being an icon manager and it's a great feeling to have something to show and distribute.

The main thing setting it apart from the competition at the moment is that it's file-based so any work you do to organize your categories and files will be mirrored in your icon folder. So if you ever decide to stop using Norde Source or want to access the files through something else, your files and folders will be neatly organized just like you had them in the app.

The near future

Besides squashing bugs and adding more basic features, like ability drag and drop to other programs, managing tags, I'm planning on adding multi-color icon support. That will allow Norde Source to detect multiple colors in icon sets and let you change each color for the entire set and see it reflected in the entire set.

The far future

The end-goal is for Norde Source to be more than just an icon manager. Also upcoming is project related asset management. That would include managing project color schemes to easily apply the projects colors to other assets like your icon sets. As well as managing things like logos, fonts and even stock images.

November 20, 2019 Launched a new landing page

Spent a couple of hours to design and build a little landing page that showcases the app a bit and looks a bit better than before.

http://norde.org/

I would say it looks decent, I'll work on it some more later when I'm closer to launching the app. Hopefully it will gather some more interest.

July 2019 Started working on Norde Source

When I first started working on Norde Source I had three reasons, in no particular order, to do it:

  1. I had been working on a website builder and hosting platform and realised I probably needed to scale down a bit since it was a large undertaking. Something smaller would probably be better to get the name out there.
  2. I had a keen interest in teaching myself Vue.js and I find the best way to learn something, for me, is to dive into the deep end with a project.
  3. I always had trouble discovering icon sets to buy and seeing how they would fit into my project. So I wanted a tool that would allow me to see the entire set, search, change colors, etc.. before buying and also managing the sets right there in the same app. Of course that's a bit thing so as a MVP it's just an icon manager that lets you import sets, change size, color and export.

At first I wasn't really serious about the project though. It was all just exploration and getting to know Vue.js a bit. But like it tends to happen with me I got drawn in and before I knew it I had a good foundation and couldn't back out!
