An online course to master life + biz workflows with Notion
Notion has transformed the way I work, but the learning curve is HUGE. I realized there is a huge opportunity to show folks how to use it to manage not just their business but their lives too.
We added our 4th employee, a chief learning officer to the company. She's now responsible for designing our live trainings, helping define and measure student outcomes, and plan our "train the trainer" programs.
This is a pretty exciting jump for us, and feels like it brings a new level of quality to our live trainings.
Just over two years into the running the course, and we are at 1700 students registered.
One of the helpful tactics we used was allowed small teams to purchase 2 licences, because it's more helpful if you're using Notion as a small team, to have more than one person learning how to use the tool deeply.
The course sells between 80 - 90 seats per month.
My husband left his full time job to come back to the company so he can focus on Notion for Teams, and providing consulting for teams. He's now our CTO and can handle all the technical stuff that falls through the cracks while I'm busy building curriculum!
Celebrating a huge milestone this week as my course reached 1,000 students!
The single biggest driver to the course is still my YouTube channel. Nearly 75% of people mention my YouTube channel in the course onboarding survey.
I now have a Director of Operations, and an Associate Coach/Consultant who helps me do new member onboarding calls, weekly review calls, Office Hours, and 1:1 consults in addition to the course.
Well, I'm no longer "solo"! I transitioned my long-time assistant into a Director of Operations role. We originally started working together back in late 2019, and I gradually increased her commitment over the last year month by month.
She was pivotal to the growth of the course over the last year, assisting with customer and technical support, and setting up all of our course + business operations so things run smoothly behind the scenes.
I also hired a part-time associate coach and part-time designer on retainer.
Hired one of my students to support me in offering 1:1 consulting services so I could focus on improving the course curriculum, creating educational marketing content, etc.
My coach delivers a few consulting packages that bundle the course alongside her services.
She also provides overall assistance in the forums, and reaches out to students that might feel overwhelmed or need more support.
I restructured the course, and created two tiers, making the version with private office hours an upgrade. I also created a payment plan and upgraded my cart software (ThriveCart) to make it easier to fulfill, and also to give me more flexibility with currency.
I also closed my books and am no longer taking on 1:1 consulting for the rest of 2020. My focus is entirely on making this the most advanced and comprehensive resource!
My mind is blown that 400 people have gone through the course! My main marketing channels have been Youtube and Webinars, as well as guest podcasts. I also added referral program to offer kick-backs for those who have already been telling their friends about the course.
Recently reached a $30k month with this evergreen course. Nearly 1/3 of course sales included the purchase of an additional 1:1 consultation. Raised the price from $397 to $497, and increased 1:1 consultations from $200 to $300. The revenue is not recurring but based on one-time sales.
I decided to continue offering the course, even in its unfinished pilot state. I made sure my language was explicit about this being a work-in-progress, and folks didn't seem to mind! I continued to use the insights from the calls to continue refining the content week after week.
