October 26, 2020 Affiliate Program Launch

NullBox now officially has an affiliate program. The NullBox Affiliate Program offers a 30% lifetime commission on all referrals. The program has been launched using Rewardful integrated with our existing Stripe payment processing. To help support the affiliate marketers as part of the program I'm also providing an affiliate kit that includes both existing brand assets and media as well as some assets exclusive to affiliates.

August 22, 2020 New Feature: Have I Been Pwned Integration

NullBox is now integrated with Have I Been Pwned. This integration introduces active monitoring for all NullBox email aliases. If the NullBox email alias of a user is subject to a breach tracked by Have I Been Pwned the user will be alerted and the email alias will be marked as compromised in the NullBox UI.

August 8, 2020 New Feature: Sender Policies

You now have the ability to optionally specify either a blocklist or allow list per email alias. This gives you even greater control over exactly who is allowed to send emails to each of your email aliases. Either block unwanted senders or explicitly only allow emails from those who you've given consent to send emails to a particular email alias. Emails sent by any sender that doesn't match the defined sender policy will be silently blocked.

August 2, 2020 New Feature: Reply from NullBox Email Addresses

Now when you reply to emails forwarded from your Box address the replies will show as coming from your Box address. This allows you to not only use your Box addresses to receive emails but also for back and forth correspondence without exposing your real email address.

This is done by automatically building special email addresses in the Reply-To header of all emails forwarded by NullBox. The sender to these addresses is validated against the Forward Addresses for the corresponding Box in order to prevent abuse by someone trying to impersonate you.

July 26, 2020 New Feature: Support for Sending Emails

One of the second most requested features from both paid users and free trial users is the ability to send emails from your NullBox email addresses. You can now send emails from the NullBox web app from your disposable NullBox email addresses. This feature is available on the NullBox Plus plan. As always all features are available to free trial users.

July 21, 2020 New Feature: Support for Custom User Domains

The number one requested feature from both paid users and free trial users has been the ability to use your own domain for your disposable email addresses. You can now configure an unlimited number of domains for use with NullBox. This new functionality comes as part of a new plan level I've added, NullBox Plus. As a thank you for early adopters I've upgraded existing paid NullBox Basic plan users to Plus for free.

July 19, 2020 Fifty Users

NullBox has hit a nice early milestone of officially having 50 registered users! Most of the users are free trial plan users from the past ten days who are still in their 14-day free trial period. I've pretty consistently been averaging about five new trial users per day. I've also collected some great feedback around features that would make the service provide more value in justifying upgrading to a paid plan. I'm working quickly to implement those features to help drive more trial conversions. I'm pretty happy with the trial sign up rate, so I need to focus on getting a reasonable percentage of users to convert to paying plans.

July 12, 2020 Added User Onboarding Guides

NullBox has been making good progress lately with free trial registrations. However, I've unfortunately noticed that a large percentage of those trial users never create even a single forwarding email before their trial registration expires. There's a problem here, as it does no good to attract free trial users if they never actually use their trial. This weekend I've implemented user onboarding guides to help walk new users through setting up their account. Hopefully, this will help increase trial engagement to ensure people are getting value out of the service when they sign up.

July 8, 2020 Launched a Paid Search Campaign

So far I've primarily been "marketing" by being active in some maker communities (like Indie Hackers) and submitting NullBox to some project/product/startup registries. So far this has driven over a dozen trial users and even a paying user (who's brought greater feedback) but it's admittedly not very targeted. Maybe some of the people seeing NullBox through my efforts thus far have the problem I'm trying to solve, but that's more by luck than anything else. So I've decided that the product and landing page are in pretty good shape (but always with room to improve) so it was time to pull the trigger to spend a little bit of money trying to target my real user market with paid search ads (Google Ads) to try and get a better sense of market validation.

Additionally, I'm going to try to start targeting user communities that are likely to be more specifically potential users as a separate effort. Both through organic involvement in those communities as well as seeing if I can get paid advertisements in those spaces.

July 2, 2020 Landing Page Revamp

Based on the excellent feedback I've been receiving here on Indie Hackers (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/latest-landing-page-revamp-thanks-to-your-help-b0a8a27344) I've significantly reworked the NullBox landing page over the past few weeks.

So far, I have done very little marketing for NullBox, primarily just involvement in a few online communities and submitting NullBox to some beta/startup registries. These efforts have been enough to get some early adoption to help validate the product idea and get some valuable user feedback.

However, I haven't wanted to invest a lot of effort or money into marketing if I didn't have a landing page capable of driving product registration. While there's always room for improvement, I feel like the landing page is now in a significantly better place and ready for me to start more actively attempting to increase site traffic.
