I was dabbling around with Flask the other day and decided to build something that I would’ve loved to use when I was trying to find a good name for my startup - a database of all the available one-word domains out there

I was planning to post about One Word Domains on Hacker News but someone beat me to it and posted it there one week after my PH launch - I found out about it when there was a sudden surge in traffic to my site. For around 5 hours, there was constantly >100 active users on the site, and at the end of the day, here are the stats I received:

May 15, 2020 Product Hunt Launch

This was one of the craziest experiences of my life. Due to timezones, I had to launch One Word Domains at 11PM local time and stay up through the night to promote it and to get my friends to upvote and comment on it. It was a grueling and tiring journey, but in the end, it was worth it. Here are my Launch Day stats:

🥈 #2 Product of the Day, with almost 500 upvotes, 90 comments, and 20 reviews
👨‍💻 5.8K new users, 100+ newsletter signups, 80 survey responses
🤯 15M+ Link Impressions, 2.4K Link Clicks
🌐 Huge SEO boost - One Word Domains now ranks in the top 10 search results for "one word domains" in Google, with the Product Hunt post taking the #1 spot.

May 12, 2020 Finished MVP

After a 1 week hackathon, I finished building the MVP for One Word Domains using Flask and Python as the backend and HTML/CSS/JS as the front end. After deploying it to Heroku, I purchased the "oneword.domains" domain name and deployed it there as well. My project is now live! Now, it's time to plan the next milestone - the Product Hunt launch.

May 5, 2020 Ideation + Hackathon

I was dabbling around with Flask the other day and decided to build something that I would’ve loved to use when I was trying to find a good name for my startup - a database of all the available one-word domain names out there. It’s a pretty straightforward idea but somehow I’ve never been able to find a resource like this online so I decided to make one myself.
