I started learning Spanish a few years ago. When my level became intermediate, I started to read news articles but figured that this is still too difficult for me and I had to look up tons of vocabulary. page91 was born.

June 9, 2020 First yearly subscription!!

Just recently I added two more subscription options (iOS only so far). On top of the monthly subscriptions, users can now also choose between a 6-months and 12-months option. Just hours after I published those additional options, somebody took the 12-months one and now (after the 1-week free trial) (s)he converted to a paying customer! Awesome!!!

June 3, 2020 500 Users in the last 28 days

More than 500 users have decided to use page91 (iOS or Android) in the past 28 days! That's huge for me!

I posted my app in a few Facebook groups which helped a lot for getting more users, but more important: people reached out to me after trying the app to tell me that this is exactly what they were looking for. Always good to get some recognition :)

May 28, 2020 Exactly 100 Registrations in the last 28 days

When I checked my app dashboard today, I got very seeing that the number for registrations for the past 28 days has three digits for the first time!

There is no account obligation on page91, which means users are seeing the additional value in creating an account:

  • you can only save your vocabulary with an account (which also makes sense... how else could I save your personal vocabulary?! :D)

Now, I also have to show them the additional value in taken the "pro" membership. Big challenge!

May 25, 2020 Implemented feedback feature to receive user input

In the past couple of days and weeks, I've reached out to people on FB, Reddit, forums, PH and also here in order to receive some feedback and opinions about my product.
And I actually collected a lot of valuable feedback - sometimes more, sometimes less but all in all okay.

However, a few persons actually asked me why I haven't implemented any kind of feedback functionality directly into my product - which is a very valid question.

So, I started looking around and found the feedback service tool doorbell.io - and for real: it didn't even take me 1h to sign up and implement the feature to both apps (iOS and Android)! Super happy and now I am looking forward to get more feedback from users who are already using my app :)

(No affiliation with doorbell.io -> I just like their product)

May 22, 2020 Launched and Failed on PH

Today, in the early morning hours I launched page91 on ProductHunt (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/page91).

The day is not over but so far page91 received 1 upvote and is already deep down the list.

Why? I simply launched it without anything else. I don't have any followers on PH and also no page91-community I could reach out to.

Long story short:
Without any additional (time-)investment, a PH launch can fail very easily.

May 18, 2020 Submitted Android App!

After one month of working on the Android App, I submitted the first Android release of page91 to the Google Play Store!!!

It definitely helped, that I developed the iOS app before because I did not have to think about concepts, backend structures, databases etc. but could re-use a few things from iOS.

I am not 1000% happy with the outcome (for example, I prefer the iOS design over the Android design), but I am 999% happy :)

Usually it takes a few hours to publish a new app to the Play Store. However, now, I see the following message in the Google Play Console:

"Due to adjusted work schedules at this time, we are currently experiencing longer than usual review times

Please expect review times of 7 days or longer."

So, patience is required...

May 15, 2020 Happy with the iOS app

Today I pushed an update to Apple (which will hopefully be approved soon) and now I reached a status that I am really happy with the product.

With the new update all Spanish vocabulary and a few full texts can be listened to (by native speakers).

I listened to user feedback which I received via Reddit a couple of weeks ago and implemented the missing features.

Now, only the customers are still missing - but I am more confident that with the new version it will be easier to attract and also keep new users. Let's see...

PS: next BIG update will also follow soon :)

March 11, 2020 200 Users used my app

I somehow reached 200 users on my app according to firebase analytics.
Also the sign-up rate is pretty good. Currently, 89 users have created an (optional) account. Signing up has the advantage that you can save vocabulary to your personal list inside the app.

However, now I need to somehow also convert my users to paying users...

March 7, 2020 Got my first paying customer!

Today one of my first trial customers for page91 converted to paid.
Incredible feeling!
I manually checked my RevenueCat dashboard every day during the trial period and was super super happy when I saw that it converted! Just missing a few hundreds more and I can live from my business...

Also, for the start, I reduced the price which means that I don't earn a lot from that customer but it doesn't matter. I now have the proof that there are people out there paying for my services! Time for a beer 馃嵒

February 14, 2020 Launched iOS app

After working 1 1/2 months in full time and tons of weeks on the project as a side project, I was finally able to launch the first version of page91.

The product was built with Xcode. Since I already released an iOS app a few months ago, I already had an Apple developer account and already knew (more or less) the upload process.
