It always bothered me why filing taxes cannot be automated.
You see, we've come pretty far in terms of automating most things in our lives (even dinner choices).
But when it comes to distinguishing between "meals and entertainment", "software subscriptions", or "office rent" in our credit card statements, so we can easily prepare and file annual taxes - little progress has occurred since Quickbooks.
So what are our choices?
a) Hire an accountant
b) Spend hundreds of hours using clunky DIY software
Myself and my co-founder Assel are working on a solution, to automate monthly bookkeeping and annual tax filing, called Paperstack.
The goal is to create a "hands-off" experience for our clients, emulating the decisions that professional accountants would make when going through credit card statements for their clients.
At the end of the day, we want to make sure that every freelancer, gig worker, or a contract across North America can spend more time doing what they love, and less time sorting through expenses and preparing tax returns.
Wish us luck, fellow hackers!
