Succesful Crowdfunding

Jared Wolff @jaredwolff

One way to get your product out there is to launch. If you don't have an audience, you surely can launch it somewhere else. That's what I did the the Air Quality Wing for Particle Mesh.

I wanted to see if the board had some legs so I decided to take a chance on the GroupGets platform (http://groupgets.com)

The idea was simple. Price it a little lower. Then set a minimum amount of units that would satisfy the manufacturing requirements. In hardware, the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. Thus there's a potential here to make as much on a bulk amount of devices in a shorter amount of time.

So, in combination of my growing email list from jaredwolff.com, I was able to leverage the audience at GroupGets as well.

A few short weeks later, we had all the orders necessary to complete the crowdfunding campaign. In particular, a donation from a very generous customer brought it over the edge. (Thank you!)

It's been such a great experience to share my experiences with the Particle community. It was so validating I recently launched a full 40,000+ word guide all about Particle's Mesh hardware and platform. I couldn't have gotten there though without milestones like this though. Every sale was an indication that I was on to something.

I'm creating a new 'Product' here on IH to describe the process better with developing the guide. I'll put more details there once it's approved.

In the meantime, I plan on some improvements to the hardware including making it smaller. Fortunately it's been very stable which has been great for everyone involved.

Maybe it's the start of more hardware bits? Who knows, only 2020 will tell.
