We started Guess My Pay in the spring of 2020 and launched our MVP, a Google Chrome extension, in May. As we continued to talk to users, a theme emerged: people are generally not the biggest fans of Google Chrome extensions. In fact, we were losing out on potential users simply because they did not use Chrome or could not install extensions on their computer. So, we started to look at delivering Guess My Pay to mobile.
At the same time, we were working through Y Combinator Startup School and getting to practice our startup pitch during weekly group sessions. It was becoming clear that the name Guess My Pay was putting us into a box based on our implementation. The name obscured our true mission: helping you make better career decisions by showing you how you compare to your peers.
We wanted a name that would allow us the freedom to explore various solutions within the compensation/jobs/hiring space.
And so, PeerWyse was born!
Fast-forward several weeks of hacking to the end of August when we released PeerWyse to the Apple app store. We're very excited about the new name and new app and we hope you'll give it a try.
