I had trouble finding a finance simulation tool that could actually model things in enough detail to ditch my spreadsheets, and which does not involve linking real financial accounts. So, I decided to build one.

June 28, 2021 New Features Since Show HN

Based on HN feedback and beta tester input, ProjectiFi now includes:

  • Customizable Monte Carlo simulations and backtesting on historical data
  • Multiple data persistence options: cloud synchronization, localStorage only, or manual import/export
  • Stock/bond allocation curve over time
  • Ability to quickly switch between deterministic and probabilistic modes
  • Better support for international use cases (currency + locale selector, custom options for financial goals)
  • Better support for married filing jointly
  • UI updates and redesigned landing page
May 15, 2021 50 Subscribers

Today ProjectiFi hit 50 subscribers, and it feels energizing to see that what started as a spreadsheet-replacement / financial independence planner tool for myself/friends/family has grown into a product that others are finding value in as well. I really appreciate the influx of ideas and suggestions from the growing list of users and beta testers, and I look forward to adding new functionality like monte carlo simulations, multiple data persistence options, better international support, and more!

April 29, 2021 Posted MVP on Hacker News

I felt ProjectiFi was finally in MVP shape and ready for some feedback from the community, so I created a Show HN post and miraculously made it to the front page. This yielded about 14k visitors and an outpouring of commentary and new ideas. Thanks to everyone for all the discussion. I'm excited to keep building out new features!
