Let's Start SaaS Crew Season Two!

Topher @toadally

Let's start Season Two!

In season one I built FormCaster.co. FormCaster processes form submissions without any server side code or misc cruft. From that I also released a small side product, the Ultimate SaaS Email Kit. The kit is a collection of transaction email templates most SaaS platforms will need.

The build was started and completed in exactly four weeks. As it turned out, four weeks was plenty to complete the task.

This season I'm hoping to get the community more involved, and get more people building. But in brutal honesty, I don't have a clue what I'm doing when it comes to community building! So I'm winging it.

I'm going to try and post more conversational items in the group, do some out reach, and make more personable & engaging videos whenever I can. I'm also hoping to run a few giveaways if possible.

With this Season we're running from Dec 29th to March 3rd. I'll be building a new platform, Cinch, and I'm super excited to see what the community is working on too.

aCinch.co is a new writing platform focused on speed, performance, and simplicity. The world doesn't need another writing platform I'm told - and I agree. It needs a better one.

Cinch aims to be that better platform.

Cinch will bring streamlined writing, platform performance, and writer-first monetization features. The monetization aspect is still not fully fleshed out, but I firmly believe it's what is needed in the writing space.

In order to make as much impact and reach as many people as possible during this short dev period, I'm taking a unique approach to development.

I'll be making the primary theme of Cinch first, and then releasing that theme for WordPress (+ a pro version), Jekyll, and Hugo. The idea is that spreading the theme for free can give exposure to the platform, and the Pro WordPress version might earn a little too? We'll see, the Pro version isn't a huge focus.

After the WordPress release, I'll begin developing the platform itself, and sprinkling in the Jekyll and Hugo releases as development proceeds.

At present the stack for Cinch is undecided. I'll be building on Node, for sure, and hosting on Digital Ocean, but beyond that I don't know. I may go React on the front end? Maybe with Next.js? Or I could go Node+Express+Jade - it's definitely fast, but it's a little less interesting. Unsure at this point, but I'll pick a stack in the next few days.

Recapping here, Season Two will produce; Cinch, a new writing platform, CinchPress a WordPress theme, CinchRB the Jekyll theme, and CinchHG the Hugo theme.

I hope you'll all follow along, and I'd love to see what you are building, marketing or running. And if you aren't there yet, please do share where you are stuck or what you might be noodling on. The Facebook group is here https://www.facebook.com/groups/2844508445593836/

Cheers, and Happy New Year everyone!
