Saasify Platform Launch 🚀

Really proud to launch the first public draft of the Saasify website and developer docs! https://saasify.sh

I still need to make the landing page more marketing-friendly, but getting this documentation out there is a huge step towards enabling other developers to build their own SaaS products!

I'm hoping to get feedback on the quick start and core mission, though really any feedback at this point will be super useful.

Thanks! 💕

    Hi Travis,

i am not a node fan , but i think the idea is good ,
the question is if you need to be the magento or the shopify of saas. I would never lock myself in into a system where i need to pay 20% commission on my income.

you need to keep the barrier of entry as low as possible , so let people start for free , and prevent the feeling of lockin , so offer an alternative to the 20% commission, even if it is a 100 usd/month subscription. it will give me the confidence i will not need to pay you 1000 usd /month when i hit 5000 MRR

This is really awesome feedback @filvdg. Definitely the type of on-point feedback that I need at this point in the process.

Regarding node.js / typescript, this restriction will be lifted soon -- it's just a useful constraint for me to launch a focused MVP.

I really like your distinction between magento vs shopify. Having a self-hosted, OSS version of the platform as well as a premium, hosted version may very well be a good direction to go. Will definitely be giving this more thought over the coming weeks.

For the % pricing, that makes a lot of sense. Compared to Apple & Google which keep 30% of all revenue on their app stores, I think 20% is reasonable for now but I definitely feel you on not wanting to lock-in and giving up a percentage of overall revenue. One thing I worry about with a straight $ amount / month is that the platform is covering the costs of hosting, so if a SaaS product goes viral, our hosting expenses could easily outgrow that set dollar amount.

Thanks for the solid feedback! 😀

I think there are a couple things you need to rethink in terms of pricing. You should price in terms of value you create.

Apple and Google, give you direct access to users , revenue when you integrate or host on their platforms. Therefore you increase revenue being on their platform so a % of revenue makes sense.

Your product doesn’t drive an increase in revenue but a decrease in development cost. Therefore pricing it directly with revenue, means that the value a customer sees from using your product (the cost saved) goes down as your pricing increases. Therefore the more revenue I make the less net value I get from your product (value of your product - cost of your product ), which could prove a huge flaw

I would consider using sassify but will pass until pricing is more aligned with value

Just updated the pricing page to better reflect the early nature of the platform.

          Thanks! 😀

Hey Menan, thank you for the really great feedback.

I've spent so much time building the core product that this is really the first time I've gotten it in front of potential users, so your feedback is really invaluable.

tbh the pricing is really up in the air since nobody's really using the platform yet. My main motivation is to help OSS authors & other makers earn passive income, so as long as that's achieved, I'm really open to other alternatives.

@filvdg or @Bsme, would either of you be open to jumping on a short call sometime this week to discuss potential pricing options? It'd really mean a lot to me :) https://calendly.com/travis-fischer
