Christmas Indie Hackers Challenge Day 1/7

Chris Kinniburgh @CJKinni

Goal: Get basic functionality built so its core is working, along with any admin interfaces needed.

So I'm probably 80% of the way there. I only have a bit of time to work on this, since I've got my day job, my work on ListenLater.fm, and family obligations. That meant that I've had a couple hours this evening to get the site started.

I've built:

  • The foundations of the web interface.
  • The communication layer with the server.
  • The SMS sending code.

I've decided I don't need:

  • Any admin interfaces (rails c will be sufficient for a project this small.)

For day 1, I'm pretty happy with my progress. I've got a web form that a user can add as many participants as they'd like to. (I'm setting a hard cap at 100, but I doubt anyone's going to be looking to run a 100-person Secret Santa out of it. Only time will tell.) I'm reading the form correctly, saving a session, and have the code in place for when the request is successful.

For day 2, I'll be hooking up the payment processing through Stripe. I'm planning for it to be a one time payment for $5. If I have time, I may make the pricing tiered based on the number of participants. If I have time, I'd also like to get the style of the site improved, but realistically, that'll need to be mainly for day 3.

Good luck to everyone else working on this 7 day challenge!
