October 27, 2022 Celebrating 1 year of Ship SaaS 馃コ

I recently celebrated the 1 year anniversary of launching Ship SaaS - a Next.js SaaS boilerplate. To celebrate, I wrote a blog post detailing what I learned while making my first $5000 online.

It's the longest blog post I have ever written and contains mistakes, lessons, and reflections from the past year 馃槃

If you find it helpful let me know.

November 1, 2021 First month recap: 10 sales and $400+ revenue

Today is the 1 month anniversary of Ship SaaS 馃コ

I built and failed countless projects in the past 3 years. So when I launched Ship SaaS I decided to change my approach.

What did I do differently?

  1. I spent a lot of time doing marketing

It's widely known that many technical founders despise marketing. I'm also guilty 馃槵. But the hard truth is that marketing and building a decent product is equally (if not more) important. People won't magically find out about your product, you have to tell them about it. And you can't expect other people to be enthusiastic about your product if you can't communicate your own enthusiasm. My marketing efforts were far from perfect, but it was a good start to get the word out.

  1. I was active on Twitter

Three months ago I was a Twitter "spectator" and mostly consumed content. Then I took this course by Kevon Cheung (highly recommended) and my whole perception changed. Worlds open up when you start to engage meaningfully with people on Twitter. Don't think that your lessons or knowledge are too insignificant to share. The power of Twitter is incredibly underrated, especially for indie hackers.

While it was quite scary doing these things (I'm used to writing code only) it was definitely necessary.

Here's to many more marketing months 馃槂

October 1, 2021 Launched Ship SaaS starter kit!

Over the past 2 years I built (and mostly failed) a couple of SaaS projects. I really like creating cool side projects, but I end up having to write a lot of boilerplate code each time I start a new project - every project requires authentication, login, registration, billing etc. Sometimes I lost interest in a project before all this was even set up.

So I decided to create a SaaS starter kit with NextJS and Supabase.

This starter kit consists of a fully customizable NextJS project with:

  • Authentication powered by Supabase
  • Data storage (PostgreSQL) powered by Supabase
  • A Stripe integration
  • Typescript already set up
  • Great landing page example with Tailwindcss

This kit makes it easier to get started with the actual project and frees up time to do other tasks like talking to potential customers.
