Originally it was to help my wife figure out all the unknown supermarkets when we moved across the world. Now it helps us keep track of our spending and knowing how much products costs at the various stores.
After slowly making it available to a few select people and working through their feedback, fixing bugs and iterating I finally did a "soft launch". i.e. Made it available on the landing page for people to use it if they found it. I also released it to the people on my short mailing list.
It is still quite ugly and premium accounts haven't been implemented yet, but at least it is being exposed to some more people. Hopefully that results in some more feedback as I add the last few features.
We finally decided to see if other people would want to use a small tool that I built for my wife a while back. It really helped her to get a handle on all the new supermarkets and stores when we moved across the world.
So I put up an ugly landing page, got a bunch of feedback, iterated on it a lot and then slowly started up fixing the tool.
