The first dollar. It feels unreal!

I'm not gonna lie, I did dance around a bit.🕺🕺🕺

After just over a year of working on this project, I finally received a donation / pro-member signup! I did think it would take a while due to the competition and for what is on offer... however it feels great to validate the project that it should be possible to progress further from here.

Again, I owe this to the community here, thanks very much everyone for the inspiration!✌️✌️✌️

    The first of many hopefully!

Haha, hopefully, Greg. Let see 🤞 😊

Kudos! That's a show of dedication as well :)

Definitely... some projects are definitely harder to know if or when to keep going. I could still be in dream mode to make this work, but let's find out.👊

      Thanks Insanity!

Congrats Thomas! Could you share your product for us?

Congrats! I'm curious how you have gained users/traffic so far? And out of the year you have been working how long would you estimate you have been 'launched' and had users on the site?

Good question, I haven't spent much time pushing the product at all and tried to spend a lot of time building the product well. Timewise I have spent a whole bunch, mainly because I have been teaching myself how to code. I rebuilt the filtering system three times over😂. Though there has been some key moments in where I have received some spikes of traffic. First was getting found by Teton Gravity Research. They wrote a quick article when my site hadn't even reached MVP. They are a huge PR company, one of the biggest in the Ski industry I think. I really wasn't ready for that traffic. Quickly stressed out and mocked-up a Mailchimp signup form. But it got me my first signups/ users. This was probably the 6-month mark and was the highest spike of traffic.

Next up I did a Reddit post with a video. Which got another spike.

Posting on Product Hunt got another one and a retweet from Pieter Levels got some quality traffic just the other day.

Even this post got me quite a lot of traffic.

Thanks man. It means a lot to me that you can see potential in it. I also think it has a huge amount of potential. Hopefully, I can scale it well and take it down the right route

This is fantastic news! And to think you launched on Product Hunt the other day. Congrats!

Yea I think that contributed a bit for sure. Definitely helped a lot with traffic

Nice work man! The first 10 paying customers are always the hardest to get. One down nine to go!

    1. 1

Yea I could see this, thanks for the challenge ;)

      Thanks Nomis! 💃💃💃

    Congrats man!

I'm probably not the target audience (but I do love snowboarding) as I don't know what shredding means :D I assume the a Ski Bum is someone who tries to spend most of his/her time on the mountain and pays for it by offering ski lessons? So, it's kind of a nomadlist for people who are crazy about skiing, nice idea :-)

Some things I noticed / unsolicited advice.

    • "Uncrowded" felt like a weird label, maybe the word "Serenity" better suites the linked score meter?
    • I'd add the words "Find the" before "Best Ski Resorts to Live, Work and Shred"
    • The ??? p/m is confusing/weird, if the data isn't ready yet (don't have enough data maybe?) I'd simply leave it out. Maybe showing the total shred score on each panel would be nice as well.

    Anyway, keep on rocking!

Hey Rick! Thanks, dude, really appreciate your comment and thoughts.

The term Shred is lingo for both acts of skiing, snowboarding. I felt like it was a good choice of word because it means both, not either-or. Plus fits into the culture well.

Yea being a ski bum and digital nomad is similar yet very different at the same time, you do have a very small cross over but generally, the market is very different. IMO.

Thanks for bringing the label up, I'll discuss it with a few people and see how they feel.

I was thinking about removing Best and just... "Ski Resorts to Live, Work, and Shred" But maybe using "Find the" will help with SEO. What are your thoughts?

Someone has already mentioned the ??? isn't a good look, I hoped to get the average living cost per month in there, but don't have enough data yet, I do however have the daily lift ticket prices, so maybe I will replace it for the meantime, while more data comes in.

      Thanks again Rick!🤘

      1. 1

Thanks for explaining! Makes much more sense now :D

I think the "Find the" helps describe what users can use the website for and indicates that there are bad ski resorts as well and using your product makes sense to make sure they don't go to a bad one.

"Best Ski Resorts to Live, Work and Shred" > You only maintain a list of the best ski resorts

"Find the Best Ski Resorts to Live, Work and Shred" > You help your users to find the best resorts but your data also contains resorts that aren't fantastic (but maybe are fantastic for users with certain preferences).
