I'm building Soccercruit to scratch my own itch and build something I would have loved using during my college soccer recruiting process.

Launch Goal

I have set a personal goal to launch the beta version of SoccerCruit by December 1st. This is going to be tough due to starting a new FT job and grad school (part-time), but I am determined to push it!

Pricing Strategy

While I do not plan on launching any paid plans until early 2019, I have started giving some thought to my pricing strategy given the 12 core features I have decided to develop.

To do so, I have looked a my two main competitors pricing models so that I could understand what the market is currently willing to pay for.

I will be launching the beta in early October 2018 with all core features for free so that I can get quality user testing and feedback from my early adopters. Once I launch paid plans I will have three plans for my B2C customers (aspiring college soccer players aged 13-18) - Silver (free), Gold($9/month), and Premier($19/month). These prices are not set in stone yet but I have become comfortable with them and think they are very reasonable for what I am offering.

Once I launch paid plans I will start to target youth soccer teams and clubs, my B2B customers. I will plan on offering teams and clubs two separate plans each (Team Gold ($49/month), Team Premier ($79/month), Club Gold($149/month), Club Premier($199/month)). These plans will grant all players on the team or teams (if club) either gold or premier features and will also allow the club or team admin to add and manage their players/teams.

Getting beta signups from Instagram Ads

Over the last 30 days I have spent $50 on Instagram ads for my new SaaS application SoccerCruit in order to generate potential leads for my beta launch.

For every ad, I just promoted one of my posts and set the targeting to automatic (people like my followers) and generated a total of 63 link clicks and 32 sign ups. Now, I cannot confirm if every sign up came from my ads but it would be safe to say that at least 25-28 of them did putting me between 40-50% conversion rate per click and $0.79/click, which for me is great considering I had no experience with Instagram ads before this.

Something important to point out is how I went about choosing targeting automatically versus making an audience. Before I even promoted a post, I had been posting somewhat regularly (using Canva to make the posts) using the most targeted hashtags I could research, which led to potential users engaging with my profile, some following. I also only followed relevant accounts that would benefit SoccerCruit (soccer clubs, college soccer programs, etc.). I did not follow any of my friends or even myself as I wanted to make sure my followers all fall into a certain population of users.

Instagram has proved to be a very helpful platform for my B2C customers. I will start as only B2C during my Beta where everyone will be able to sign up for free as I continue to develop paid features.

Sometime around the new year I will launch the company more officially and also paid plans for my B2C users, and I will also start to target Youth Soccer Clubs who will be my B2B customers.

I am very excited for the future and cannot wait to get my first customer!
