Create and record running workouts.
I've been told the best way to learn to code is to have something to build. I've wanted to learn more about coding for quite some time, but couldn't quite pin down what I wanted to build - until now!
I'm familiar with iOS & apple watch, so I'll build there first. That means I need to learn Swift, and possibly SwiftUI.
Apple has a great resource for learning both of these, which I found the other day. I'll start working early mornings to build the example app, which looks like it contains many of the same building blocks I'll need for SoleMate.
Here is the tutorial from Apple: https://developer.apple.com/tutorials/app-dev-training
Substack is quick, easy, free - and looks great. It's just what I need to share SoleMate, and collect emails at the same time.
I built the landing page today, and shared on twitter and a few subreddits.
I used Miro and Figma to make the first app launch screen mockups - which seems to give a good first impression on Substack.

Tracksmith publishes a weekly newsletter, in which Mary Cain (professional mid-distance runner) shares a running workout each week. The majority these workouts are track-based.
People love to follow pro athletes and learn from them. What if you could work out like the pros? This could be a great social aspect to the app.
Doing a track workout with a friend, I was surprised that a tool to track running workouts didn't yet exist.
Strava will record the entire run, but what if I'm doing 400m repeats on a 300m track? Counting partial laps in my head was distracting, and took away from my running.
I wanted to make it easier.
