Something I've been toying with for a while is slashing the scope of SongBox's free tier.
When SongBox launched I got a lot of interested from a lot of people, but it was heavily caveated with "we love this but you need to give us as much free stuff as Soundcloud". So, did.
However, Soundcloud is funded and has advertising revenue. They also allegedly make money by selling user data. I don't do any of this; the point of SongBox is that it's secure and private with no ads etc.
Anyway, decision made that I'm slashing the free tier and if people don't like that then they don't like it, and if they value the service then they will pay the nominal amount ($8 usd per month) to use the service.
The only thing having hundreds of free tier members is gonna do is kill the company, as it still costs me money to host and stream their audio.
I'll report back if this affects revenue at all.
