December 25, 2020 Declined publisher offer

An author acquisition representative of a course platform contacted me offering to sell my book or convert it to a course.

It's not clear whether they're a publisher or a distribution channel. But I declined anyway because I want to remain fully independent, as well as retain full ownership and control of my work. I'm not even sure whether the offer is legitimate and the platform reputable.

The bottom line is if I got on someone's radar, such an offer somehow validates my work.

November 27, 2020 First Gumroad sale

I got the first sale of my ebook Space Apps for Android on Gumroad. It's the first sale of my first Gumroad product.

It happened thanks to my Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2020 promotion. Nothing fancy, I just offered a discount and shared it on my newsletter and Twitter. It turns out the customer is a good friend who noticed the offer, bought the product, and left a star-rating.

Aside from the gratification and encouragement, why is this early sale important?

Because Gumroad needs a few initial sales to run some checks and verify a new account like mine. Also, a few customer ratings are required to join Discover, Gumroad's marketplace that algorithmically recommends products and boosts sales a bit.

September 9, 2020 Book for sale on Gumroad

After Leanpub, I uploaded my book Space Apps for Android for sale on Gumroad https://gum.co/spaceappsforandroid

I chose Gumroad for two reasons. The first is Gumroad, along with Leanpub, supports selling works in-progress like Space Apps for Android, which I continuously expand and update. The other reason is I wanted to experiment with Gumroad with a real product. This will help me create and sell more ebooks, courses, and other products on Gumroad.

Bonus reason: I wouldn't mind making a few bucks.

Now I need to patiently wait for the first sales, to verify my account, and reader reviews, a requirement for enrolling in the Gumroad Discover marketplace.

July 17, 2020 Past milestones

The book started as a series of related posts on Google+. In April 2019 I put together the first draft by combining the posts, adding a preface and an introduction, and publishing the book as a work in-progress with the Lean Publishing process.

I told my experience with the book in the following interviews:
