Handpicked list of affordable products to start a project
When working on a new side project I realized there wasn't a good simple site focus on the highest quality services to start. There were some lists out there but they had too many options sometimes.
A good way to manage the services
In order to manage all the products a came up with a simple option. I use a JSON file with all the categories and products and a simple Ruby script to generate the final index.html (served later by Netlify).
The script is very fast and the setup is very simple since there isn't a DB so I'm quite glad with the solution for now :)
Draft plan to monetize it
I wasn't sure about how to monetize this project since I didn't want to add a bunch of irrelevant ads nor include services just because they pay me.
I think I've reached a good balance between respecting the current services there and monetizing it a little bit if I get enough traffic. I'm offering only one highlighted slot for category and I'll also add your product for free if there aren't too many in that category and it has an affordable and valuable option to start a software project.
We'll see how it goes 🚀
Released first version of Start For Zero
After some weeks working on it and lots of changes I've released the first version of the site.
I've used UIKit for the CSS / HTML and Netlify to host it, great service! :)
