We make stencils for all kinds of different projects.
I created Stencil Stop both to escape my 9 to 5 job and because I saw an opportunity in the e-commerce market.
We did a text interview with Indie Hackers today! We talked about how we got started, what our journey has been like, and our goals for the future, as well as some tips and advice for other indie hackers out there. Check it out to get a look into our story. https://www.indiehackers.com/interview/why-expanding-my-products-helped-me-reach-40k-mrr-ca2526bf01
After years of laboring away in a tiny, retired airport hangar, we had finally saved up enough to justify a move into a bigger, more awesome space. Though we still call it "The Hangar," our new digs are much more spacious and help facilitate creativity daily.
Like I said, all I needed was the extra time invested in the business to facilitate it's growth. After working a few full-time months, I saw the investments I made starting to pay dividends. We began to advertise on Google, improve our website, increase our product offering, and even hired our first remote employee to help design stencils for custom orders.
Although Stencil Stop wasn't really thriving - we weren't much bigger than that initial $1,000 month - I knew I had to jump all the way in to the business full-time if I wanted it to be a success. I spent three years working nights and weekends and I knew if I just added the extra hours, I would be able to take the business to the next level.
We launched in April of 2015, and it took us a few months to get going. It definitely felt good to make over $1,000 in revenue for the first time. I remember those first "big" orders - the ones over $60, ha! Back then, like today, we had to scrap and claw for every dollar we earned.
