Consumer SaaS in productivity space
Taskito is planning and organizer app which helps you schedule your day by seamlessly integrating Tasks, To-Do lists, Reminders, Habits, Projects and Calendar events in a timeline.
Taskito has reached new milestones in the 4th month of 2022.
Taskito is growing at a steady rate and I'm currently building a web app. Constant user feedback and appreciation inspires me to build more features and improve the product.
It's been an incredible journey to reach here. I started building a timeline app as a personal work log / journal back in 2019. The goal was never to build a task management app.
I shared it on Reddit and received incredible feedback & support. That's how the app has come to be. Through suggestions & feedback.
Personally, I would have never made a To-Do List app. But people saw potential and they were willing to pay for the features. That's what kept me going.
And 18 months later, here we are – at 100K downloads. It's been a slow, long & hard journey.
Being a solo dev & indie hacker is difficult. We should all pat ourselves on the back once in a while 👏
For the first year, Taskito did not make $3,000 in total. But the tides have turned since August, 2020. With more efforts in App Store Optimization, trying to get more press and constant additions of new features, Taskito is seeing a moderate growth month on month.
With new features, we have also increased our prices.
Taskito offers one-time purchase at the moment. We plan to move to a subscription based revenue model in the future. Once we flip the switch, we expect to see a drastic decrease in monthly revenue for a few months.
Total ratings and average score has always been one of my milestones for Taskito. It shows how much people appreciate your work and it's a source of motivation.
It also helps in increasing downloads and acts as a great tool for App Store Optimization. I have tried various methods to get more & better ratings.
Next milestone: 3,000 ratings.
I did not have a target that I wanted to reach by the end of 2020. Taskito did not even reach 5,000 downloads in 2019. With around 2,500 installs in Jan & Feb 2020 each, I could never imagine reaching 75K.
I pushed, tried, failed and kept pushing. I have spent countless hours trying to improve ASO - Title & Description, Screenshots just to get few more downloads. Based on user feedback, implemented new features and improved the existing ones.
I am happy with my efforts and glad to see the outcome in 2020. Few things that worked:
---
For 2021, my goal is to reach 250,000 downloads on Google Play.
Press coverage is one of the most important tools for organic growth. Taskito has got featured in a few websites and YouTube channel, but Android Police is next league!
Hands-on with Taskito, a to-do app that does things a little differently
------
I don't know how exactly this happened. But it could be related to this tweet
There was a Tweet from Android Police Twitter account asking for "Best apps released in 2020" - I saw the tweet within a few minutes after it was posted. So I added Taskito's name there.
Taskito was actually released in 2019, so I just put it as a joke because the app doesn't get that much attention.
I guess I got lucky! 🤞
Number of ratings & average score is one of the most important aspect to get someone to download your app. A high average score (4.5+) builds a trust and makes people comfortable to become paying customers.
With Taskito, it's always my aim to get more & more reviews as it helps with organic growth. Here are a few tips to get more reviews and improve the average score.
Prompt users to give a rating when they have finished a happy path. Use Google Play in app review to make it seamless.
Whenever you interact with one of the users, ask them to leave a review. Add it in your email signature, chat auto messages.
If they give your app app 3 or 4 star rating, reply to them and politely ask them to improve the rating. More users will change their review if you reply to them.

I know it's not really a big deal for a task manager app to have a recurring tasks feature. All the popular apps have it and it's one of the basic feature that every user looks for.
In spite of not having features such as Recurring tasks, Cloud Sync, Multiplatform, I have managed to get Taskito to 50K+ downloads, is quite an achievement.
I have been delaying this feature due to its complexity and I just could not get myself to do it. I have been "working" on implementing cloud sync functionality since last year. I can't get myself to finish it due to lack of confidence as I have never worked on a backend system before.
But maybe this milestone will push me to get out there and get it done.
Taskito just crossed 50K downloads on Google Play. This is a big achievement. With 37% MAU, it seems like a good indication that the product is going in the right direction.
Without marketing, I had to rely a lot on Google's algorithm for ranking. Up until May, the app would usually rank within top 15-20 when searching for to-do list apps or similar keywords. But this did not yield a lof installs. I tried my hand at improving ASO. I saw the increase in rank but it didn't result in actual growth.
Since June, Google has changed its algorithm and now the app ranks 50+ (always). But its rank improved in similar apps category and the app started getting more downloads through "explore".
Taskito also got featured in a few Youtube videos which helped increase its reach. I have also created a community of people who advocate for Taskito on Reddit, Telegram and other platforms.
To summarize, ASO/SEO didn't help much. Getting featured in Youtube videos, more ratings, and advocate users helped Taskito gain traction.
Taskito has crossed 1000 reviews on Google Play. This is a great milestone in terms of user growth and product acceptance. It has consistently been rated over 4.6.
1000 reviews seem to have improved Google Play ranking for the app and organic downloads have increased. After months of efforts in improving SEO to get a better rank, Taskito has finally achieved some good traction.
I am hoping to reach 50K+ downloads soon.
