This is kind of an amusing story, you guys might enjoy it.
On Hive Index I curate lists of online communities, organized by topic, platform, feature. Anyways, after I curate a list I go and distribute it to various online communities that might be interested in it. Last month I made this list of software developer communities and posted it to HackerNews.
This absolutely blew up! I got over 5k visitors from that post alone. The HN thread got 91 points and 81 comments (really useful ones too - helped me add to the list even more).
The funny thing is, I had no idea! I made that thread right before getting on a plane to go to Costa Rica with my girlfriend (who became my fiancée on that trip). I had other things on my mind - like enjoying our vacation and figuring out how the hell I was going to propose. When we landed we got right into our lovely Costa Rican break, with tons of surfing and sea turtles.
I didn't even open my computer for 2 days, and when I eventually did go online and cruise over to Google Analytics, I fell out of my chair.
