We believe user testing is one of the best tools we all have to build a product our users will love!

August 27, 2021 Niching down to design teams

Positioning.

We did it wrong for thinkoutloud.io but we are now onto something!

We niched down to designers since they are the ones that can get "superpowers" by using it.

Positioning is not about finding users. It's about finding the IDEAL users that will get superpowers from your product. That's why we started deciding who we DON'T want as our user.

Also this week we onboarded two designers from successful startups with millions of users and both were excited to start using it next week 馃槏

We are clearly onto something, let's see how this goes!

August 26, 2021 Shipped Safari support!

Safari has been very challenging with video recording and previewing but we finally made it work!

Now all desktop browsers are fully supported and user can record their screen and voice with no issues 馃コ

August 24, 2021 Shipped a public roadmap page for our users

We just shipped a roadmap page for our users http://thinkoutloud.upvoty.com where they can share their feedback and look at our roadmap and see what's coming up!

It really feels like having a baby that is slowly growing up and making its first significant steps 馃槏

One small step at a time!

July 29, 2021 Samuel from useronboard tweeted about us 馃槏

Samuel Hulick, the OG of User Onboarding from useronboarding.com tweeted today that thinkoutloud looks awesome.

This means a lot to use, cause he is one of the ideal users for our product. And hearing that he finds it awesome makes it clear we are onto something!

Super excited and pumped to keep shipping, and keep onboarding new users!

July 13, 2021 Reached 100 beta signups!

Today thinkoutloud.io reached 100 signups! 馃槏

On June 2020 I quit my job to chase my dream and become part of IndieHackers, and it was the 1st time in my life I had to do proper marketing and audience development.

So far, so good - I am really happy with our progress!

100 beta signups

What's interesting is that we've been working on it with @kanga_bru for 2 days per week for 6 months now.

We treat it as a SaaS side project and focus on slow, organic growth.

Best thing about it is that it's fun, without stress. We just take small steps and go with the flow!

July 8, 2021 Reached 94 beta signups and now need a CRM!

Here is something worth celebrating for! 馃ぉ

We reached 94 beta signups at Thinkoutloud and we are at the
point where we need some kind of CRM to manage everything!

Airtable as our CRM

Before we just had a form and a discord notification. Now we grew a bit and suddenly have more needs.

For the curious ones here is our NoCode setup:

  • Signup through Typeform
  • Notify Discord with Zapier
  • Add signups to Airtable with Zapier and curate them further manually
  • Email people from my personal Hey email account (from Basecamp) or social media

That's it!

I'll also publish soon a detailed post on the UX strategy behind our onboarding process.

Exciting times ahead 馃檪

July 2, 2021 Onboarded our first beta user! (here is how)

Big milestone today!

We onboarded our first beta user at thinkoutloud.io and made our first partnership 馃槏

A few months ago we just had an idea, and now we have a working MVP with a real user and a waiting list of ~70 people!

Here is our step-by-step onboarding process 馃憞

we onboarded our first user

We got heavily inspired by the onboarding process of superhuman.

  • We schedule a 1-1 call with every new user

  • We create an account for them and ask them to sign-in, use our product and speak their thoughts

  • In the end of the call we discuss about their needs and vision

This way we can check:

  • if our product is easy to use

  • if people get it

  • what are some features they may need in the future

On top of this we build a personal relationship with them and this is the most important thing.

We believe in relationships and human-centered products not sales and growth-focused products.

You can read more at the SuperHuman case study as well https://growth.design/case-studies/superhuman-user-onboarding/

@productandres was our first user and we will support his venture http://buildupcamp.com by providing free accounts to his customers as part of their program!

They run design sprints and teach new founders how to think and act in a lean way and this is a great audience for us!

They are in heavy need of user feedback and thinkoutloud.io is exactly focused on that 馃ぉ

It's a tool that makes user feedback collection easier and more human, without boring impersonal forms and surveys.

That's it for now, really happy with the progress so far, and can't wait to onboard our next user next week!

June 10, 2021 3 weeks left for beta launch - a demo of our MVP!

This week I am going on holidays and when I'm back we'll onboard the first group of users. 69 people have signed up already!

We built the simplest and most focused tool to collect think aloud user feedback. You can test anything that works in a browser without installing anything!

Here is how you can test a prototype made with framer.com 鉂わ笍

June 2, 2021 15 new signups with a LinkedIn post

I hate when people ask me to buy stuff and disturb my feed with promotional posts.

I am a huge fan of building in public and just sharing my work. I've realized that this is one of the best sales tools an indie founder can use.

You build trust with people by opening yourself and becoming vulnerable.

The clue here is that the outcome is random and takes time. I didn't expect this post to bring new signups but it did. That's why I am focusing only on what I can control which in this case is to show up!

Here is an example of how a single post brought us 15 new signups for thinkoutloud.io, the SaaS product I am building with Scott!
