ToDoBot is a mini side-project of our main product OneBar.io We were developing the Slac home tab for OneBar and suddenly realized that it would be so cool to put all our TODOs there!

July 6, 2020 $300/mo

About a month ago we decided to turn on monetization for ToDoBot. There wasn't any specific trigger making us do that aside from the overall cost of all the projects we run getting to high. We came up with a rather relaxed "freemium" model where you need to upgrade only if have more than 10 open to-dos at one time on your list. We didn't have much hope for big revenue based on the usage stats we saw, but immediately after we turned on monetization, some teams did upgrade. Almost a month later, and ToDoBot already pays for its own hosting 🍾 Hope the trend continues 🤞

April 16, 2020 Launched ToDoBot for Chrome on Product Hunt

Hey, Indie Hackers!
We launched ToDoBot for Slack almost 3 months ago and saw tremendous growth since then. Almost 3000 teams signed up and created 30000 to-dos. Today we’re extending ToDoBot beyond Slack and introducing our new Chrome extension.

  • View your Slack to-dos right in your Chrome
  • Turn anything you see on the web into a to-do
  • Instantly share it with your team
  • Complete tasks wherever you do you work

Check it out on Product Hunt today!

March 17, 2020 New website for ToDoBot!

We've grown to 1700 signups with an ugly website and now it's time to change that!
@andrewfan spent 3 days digging through Webflow to build this beauty: https://www.thetodobot.com/

(Just for the reference, here's what I'm comparing it to https://www.dropbox.com/s/0aqo8phc3df8v9i/Screenshot 2020-03-17 23.00.10.png?dl=0)

Jokes aside, this page is very fresh and I'd warmly welcome any feedback and criticism. Please let me know if there are any typos or the messaging is confusing. Thank you!

P.S.
Special shoutout to another Indie Hacker @hlucas for building kampsite.co which we use for tracking feature-requests at ToDoBot

March 2, 2020 ToDoBot is 1 month old, 800 signups, 7000 todos

It started as a side project, we didn't put anything into marketing and we didn't expect it to spread this fast, but here we go!

Viral loops seems to be working well and we saw a company where 72 people tried out ToDoBot just 4 days latest after someone signed up.

We're going to keep adding small features here and there and see how it goes.

This weekend we added pagination and the ability to filter todos by channels so, you can manage reasonably large projects with ToDoBot.

February 24, 2020 Wrote about ToDoBot-based project management

He, IH!

ToDoBot is gaining extreme adoption both internally (for our own team) and externally - for our users. We added Mixpanel tracking just last Friday and the numbers look good - 350 active users over the weekend! We're yet to see what the weekday usage looks like :)

Also, we've moved most of our internal project management from Trello to Slack, added a few features to the ToDoBot to support that and wrote a post:

February 16, 2020 Someone posted ToDoBot on Japanese HN

We were sitting in my living room, coding as usual when suddenly our notifications channel exploded. People were signing up for ToDoBot every few minutes and, what's strange, almost all of them were from Japan. Quick googling revealed the root cause - someone posted about us on https://dev.classmethod.jp/etc/todobot/

We don't understand Japanese, but I guess it's some sort of HN or PH but in Japan. Anyway, in two days we got almost 100 website visits and almost 100 signups - not bad at all! 1000 more and we'll start learning Japanese ;)

February 7, 2020 1000 TODOs, 400 users, viral features

Hey, IH!
It’s been a week since we launched ToDoBot and it seems to be getting some traction!
We’ve been getting a steady stream of signup throughout the entire week, and got over 200 of them so far. The Product Hunt “afterglow” is fading but we still have some ideas on how to keep the fire burning ;)

One of the key features of the ToDoBot is built-in virality - people can easily share TODOs with each other and the app is supposed to spread within the organization this way. We saw some people doing that, but we’re trying to boost this behavior a little bit by bringing in some things from a game design.

Today we added a “hidden” feature to the ToDoBot - something that you can unlock either by tweeting about the app or sharing a TODO with at least 3 different people in your company. You don’t know what the feature is upfront, but once you complete the task, the feature reveals itself. (It’s a useful one, something you’d expect every TODO manager to have).

We launched it just a few hours ago and already got several people tweeting about us or unlocking it the other way. We’ve never done anything like this before so, super stocked to see how it plays out :)

Help us by spreading the word on twitter: https://twitter.com/todobot_slack

Thanks, all!

This is a story of how we got an idea on Sunday evening and had the app up and running, featured on Product Hunt by Friday.

I'm not a native English speaker so, forgive some roughness and point out at dumb mistakes, please! ;)

January 31, 2020 Launched on Product Hunt

Hey, IH!

OneBar.io team here. Please meet a small side-project of ours - ToDoBot for Slack!

We were working on implementing the Home Tab for our main product and suddenly realizes that it would be so cool to put all our TODOs there. Slack is already supported on all platforms/all devices, UI is nice and we spend most of our days in it anyway. Said - Done!

Three days of hacking later and ToDoBot is approved in the Slack Directory. It can

  • Add anything you DM it to your TODO list
  • Show your TODO list in the home tab
  • Let you check off items right from the home tab
  • Let you use /todo to add new items
  • Let you share TODOs with your teammates by simply mentioning them

And... it's FREE! (We hope that it'll drive some traffic to onebar.io though ;) )

Please let me know what you think about the product and support us on Product Hunt today!
