1st Anniversary: 2M users and $15k revenue

A year back i did a soft launch of Visa List and it has been a roller coster ride since then. The community has given me a lot from motivation, feedback, direction and a lot of inspiration which have collectively been a huge contribution to where I'm standing now with Visa List.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Some of the stats of Visa List over the year:

๐Ÿ† 1st place on Product Hunt
๐Ÿ† 1st position on Hacker News
๐Ÿ† Top position on Reddit
๐Ÿฅˆ 2nd position in Golden Kitty Awards
๐ŸŒŸ Got featured on Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Esquire
๐Ÿ™Œ 2M Total Users
๐Ÿšฆ 6M Total Page views
๐Ÿ”Ž 25M Search Impressions
๐Ÿ‘ฅ 300K+ MAU
๐Ÿ’ธ $15K Total revenue
๐Ÿ’ฐ $5000 Monthly revenue
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ $500 Total cost
๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ 10 buyouts rejected

I'm kind of proud of what i have been able to do in a year but i still think there is a long way ahead. I want Visa List to be one stop shop for all your visa needs. Keep the feedback/ suggestions coming as always. Thank you everyone for all for the support ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’–.

Wow, that's awesome! It's a simple but at the same time brilliant idea. I wish you a good luck, keep it up:)

By the way have you been inspired by nomadlist.com, because i guess i see some common design "things"?

    1. 2

Thanks a lot mate! I'm a huge fan of Pieter levels and such a huge inspiration.

  2. 2

    Congrats!

    1. 1

      thanks mate

  3. 2

Awesome!!! you should be proud. Would love to learn on how you are able to achieve all hese!!

  4. 2

    HaKr, huge congratulations.

I love seeing valuable content being able to generate real revenue.

What's the revenue split between ads and memberships?

Also, I can't seem to find your plan pricing. Do I have to register to see that info?

    1. 1

Thanks mate. Currently the ad revenue is a big chunck. You need to login to see the pricing.

  5. 2

Awesome job! Thanks for the inspiration and congratz!

What is your opinion on visadb.eu?

    1. 1

Thanks mate! It's a good competitor but with different pricing models.

  6. 2

Congrats! What is your tech stack? Have you had a hard time keeping up with traffic?

    1. 1

It took me a while to optimize but it's good now with cloudflare caching. I use VueJS with NuxtJS, MySQL with GoLang.

  7. 2

A big Congratulations on this milestone. I hope next time you crack a new one.

Congratulations! So your ARR is $60k now? Not bad for a one-man band!

    1. 1

Thanks man! It's more actually as i have other products.

  11. 2

    Congratulation!

I remember seeing this project last year and I thought to myself, wouah, this guy is getting tons of attention, will he be able to make a "product" out of his website.

I am impressed by what you did! Congrats.

I also wondered how did you first build your dataset of NxN visa requirements? (Where N = number of countries = ~270 ?)

How do you monitor VISA requirements change ? Does it happen that often? (genuine curiosity, I have absolutely no idea)

Can you share the biggest buyout you refused?

Looking forward to see how this product evolves.

    Good luck and ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

    1. 1

      Thanks a lot Pierre.

I build the data by collecting it manually and currently i'm in the processing of finishing the entire data for 240+ countries ๐Ÿ˜‰. I got many offers in the beginning when Visa List went viral and at that time i was hardly making $100 and the offer was $10K back then but i refused. I have lot of plans and want to make it one stop shop for all visa needs! Long journey ahead!

Just checked out Visa List after seeing this post. It's great - simple and dumps a ton of information at you on entry, I like it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
This is a huge traction you're having. Care to share any plans for the future? @1hakr

    1. 1

Thanks and sorry about lot of info ๐Ÿ˜…. Current plan is to add visa photo requirements and build tools to automatically get correct visa photo from any photo. Then see how things go from there.

  13. 2

Congratulations man ,but maybe find a better way to monetize this traffic because your product is really good and helpful and you deserve to be me making more from it even if not from directly charging users

    1. 1

Thanks mate! I have been trying to grow the revenue for a long time now.

  14. 2

    Congrats!

I wonder, if you gave 5k MRR, how can you have 15k total revenue after 1 year?

    1. 2

My guess is the MMR only reached $5k recently :)

      1. 1

        Yes thats correct

        1. 2

What's the most popular plan? Monthly or Yearly or Lifetime?

          1. 1

            It's actually lifetime plan!

            1. 2

Amazing! What's the total number of paying users. Monthly + yearly + lifetime?

              1. 1

its pretty small considering i launched it just a month back.

                  1. 1

                    its around 30

            2. 1

In this case, I fail to see the recurring part of the revenue. If most people pay once...

Thats a great suggestion Crissy! I have added visa free document requirements for very few but now i will add for all the countries where its mandatory.
