November 22, 2020 πŸš€Launching Visa List 3.0

A year back, I launched the second version of Visa List on Product Hunt. The world has seen a 360 turn with the pandemic this year. But I never stopped building features for It's been a crazy adventure since then.

Today I launch the third iteration of Visa List. I've worked on this with passion, some doubts πŸ€” and lots of love πŸ’– from friends, family and indie community. I made everything on this site mostly by myself 😏 so I'm super excited.

Since COVID, I have added a tracker with cases, recovered, deaths, curve flattening, containment rate and everything else related. I have also added travel restrictions finder. The travel restrictions finder is an online global map that displays the latest travel updates for a large number of countries. The map can be used to plan your vacation by letting you see which countries are open and safe to travel to, helping you avoid any potential unrest in regions that could have an impact on your vacation. The map also includes a legend that will tell you whether certain countries are closed, restricted, or open for travel.

November 2, 2020 Visa List crossed 100 subscribers during COVID!

Finally reached this milestone after a long time. It's actually very motivating because I achieved this during a pandemic.

It all starting with a small idea and down the line, it has crossed $55000 in revenue. Although it took 70% because of the pandemic, it has recovered significantly. Hell, I again got an offer to sell recently! πŸ˜…

I realized there is a good amount of interest in finding which countries are open to travel. So it's a good sign for the travel industry in general. The prediction is things will be back to normal by end of 2021.

November 1, 2020 Find Countries Open for Travel

Recently I started to notice the trend of people getting back and traveling to different countries as the number of people viewing visa requirements and booking visas have increased by 200%.

I realized there is a good amount of interest in finding which countries are open to travel. So I built a finder for that.

Now you can find the latest info on travel restrictions, quarantine and entry requirements with our global map. Travel to countries that are safe and open to travel. These are updated regularly.

Visa List Revenue

Travel Industry is the most hard hit sector. I see the trend to continue for atleast this quarter. Probably things might look good for the next quarter.

More than the revenue dip, personally I miss my travels.
On another note, I have been working on coronavirus tracker, even though it doesn't generate any actual revenue, gives me satisfaction that I'm doing my small bit.

Also all the pro features in Visa List are free to use for a month keeping #COVID19 in mind.

We have also entered into a recession. I have no idea how long this will take, but I have new project in my mind so I will keep myself occupied. I hope there will be light at the end of the tunnel and we will pull though this together.

February 27, 2020 Visalist crossed 400K MAU and $40K ARR

Visa List is my most successful microstartup so far. One thing that made this milestone possible is the corona virus trackers which has now been used by more than 150K people. I feel good and bad at the same time, bad because we are facing such huge pandemic and good because i’m able to help travellers during such difficult times.

The growth rate is now around 15% which bring the MAU to 405K users so far. The revenue has been also stable.

So i have decided to take a break from visa list and build something else that i have been ideating from sometime. Thanks everyone who has been there showing supporting, giving feedback and cheering for me. This Indie Makers journey of 3 years has been absolutely amazing.

February 9, 2020 Post went viral on Reddit and got 40K users

Last week i was trying to find information on corona virus and its spread but as its distributed with different agencies, it was becoming difficult everyday to get a complete sense of whats happening. So i thought of building a website which aggregates the different sources of data and lets you stay on top of this global pandemic. It took me 24 hours to build and it now ready. I thought it will be very useful as i feel lot of us want to track this and stay vigilant. It has latest toll numbers for the Novel Coronavirus epidemic, see affected regions, stats, casualties and more. Its data is collected from WHO and other government agencies and updated everyday. I though this will be useful to people of Visa List and other who have some plans to travel, so i posted it on Reddit and it kind of went viral. I just thought it will be get more reach but oh boy, it went crazy.

First i posted a video of it and it made a comment on the link but it was hidden by their bot, after an hour and sending multiple messages to the mods, it got approved. Now things started looking good. Immediately it started pickup upvotes and comments. It reached 2k upvotes and after 2 hours everything stopped. I only realised this after an hour . It turns out my post was removed. I was dumbstruck but quickly messaged again to the mods. Fortunately, it was approved again.
After 19 hours, its around 23.5K upvotes and got me 40K users.

January 4, 2020 3 New milestone crossed $7K MR, $25K ARR, 350K MAU

This is new I'm super excited as I crossed three new milestones. The monthly revenue has crossed $7000 and the total revenue has crossed $25000. The total monthly active user has reached 360K.

The new year has brought lot of joy for the hardwork I have been doing from last one year.

I also have a personal update, where I have reached my goal of $300 per day or $9000 per month from all my microstartups. Next goal is $400 per day. Challenge accepted πŸ‘.

December 18, 2019 Crossed $20,000 in total revenue within a year

Finally i have crossed to $20k in total revenue and proud to say that Visa List is my 3rd micro startup to reach this milestone.

Two months back i crossed $5000 in monthly revenue and if i can manage to stay constant, i would reach $50K in under 6 months. This is very wishful, but looking at the traffic, i think i will be able to hit that milestone may be even early.

I have also improved the UX for Open Startup page of visa list.

December 16, 2019 I got $100K acquisition offer for Visa List

After my Visa List launch on ProductHunt, i posted a gist of my journey on Reddit and what do you know, i got a message from a some guy who said he was willing to buy Visa List for $100K.

This is not the first time i got an offer to sell Visa List, in fact i think this is the 7th time in a year. It made me think what is actually the value of Visa List and how can i decide that irrespective of whether i want to sell or not. So i did some math based on Visa List stats

  • MAU : 310K
  • Monthly Page Views : 650K
  • Monthly Revenue : $5,000
  • Growth Rate: 10%
  • Yearly Revenue w/o Growth: $60,000
  • Yearly Revenue w/ Growth: $106,921

Selling for $10000 would mean a loss of $6000 on the face of it but you are actually losing a lot more revenue. Usually you have to consider the lifetime value, let's say you 5 years, you can potentially make $0.5M or may be more so you are actually losing a lot.

On the other hand cash flow is more risky and there is no guarantee if it will actually survive for that long and keep the growth rate. Having said that, these acquisition offers rarely close, so 95% of the time someone is just wasting yours and their time at the same time.

I'm not saying you shouldn't sell, you can if you need cash very badly and/or you don't believe in your microstartup very strongly. No shame in admitting that, not every idea can be successful. I have more than 10 ideas didn't see the light of the day.

I believe in Visa List and wouldn't sell it for money any day but thats just me. What do you guys think?
