I love programming because it allows me to create stuff and I want to share this with the world! I want to show people how awesome and easy (sometimes) it is to be able to bring something to "life" using code! 馃ぉ

September 16, 2020 50,000 Subscribers

Today I want to share with you a small (big) achievement! 馃ぉ

馃敟 50,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel! 馃敟

I started posting on YouTube in November 2019 and the target for 2020 was (and still is) to reach: 100,000 subscribers. (50% remaining) 馃槉

Since I started I have posted a total of 105 videos and made 139 Live Streams.

Although I had a great start with 20,000 subscribers in about 6 months, in June-August I slowed down a bit, only reaching the 30,000 mark in these 3 months (it was probably because I didn't continue to upload so many videos as I was before).

But everything changed recently when 3 videos (and a shoutout) brought me 20,000 subscribers in about 2 weeks.

They were 3 coding challenges:

  • 10 JavaScript Projects in 10 Hours
  • 10 JavaScript Projects in 1 Hour
  • 10 Websites - From Design to HTML/CSS

It seems that the mysterious YouTube Algorithm liked these types of videos and decided to promote them significantly.

In fact, the first video reached almost 200,000 views (a total record on the channel!).

It has been a crazy journey so far, but the show must go on! Still 50% left to achieve the goal for 2020! 馃榿

May 7, 2020 20,000 Subscribers

Exactly 6 months ago I published my first video on YouTube and today I'm thrilled to say that: We reached 20,000 Subscribers! 馃ぉ

The Journey:

It's been a very, very interesting journey.
I said at the beginning of the year that "2020 will be all about my YouTube Channel", and it was (and still is)...

Over the past 4-5 months I uploaded over 180 videos and Live Streams.

I had days with multiple Live Streams (3-4) and even one day with 8 Live Stream, covering different topics.

One day I uploaded 24 different videos (one video every hour) covering a huge topic.

I've spent probably hundreds of hours learning about "how YouTube works" and applying all of these tips&tricks to my videos.

All-in-all it is a fun journey and now we are closer to the big goal of 100,000 Subscribers ! 馃挏

March 14, 2020 10,000 Subscribers

I kept pushing new content to my channel. So far published over 100 total videos in 2020 alone. (including Live Streams)

A tweet then exploded and in two days it brought me over 1400 new subscribers. 馃ぉ

Next milestone: 20,000!

I wrote about everything I did for that tweet here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/how-a-simple-tweet-got-me-24x-more-youtube-subscribers-45aa25b5a0

February 21, 2020 100,000 views

It feels amazing to know that your videos were watched over 100,000 times! 馃ぉ

It's even nicer that the last 50,000 views came in the last month. That means that now my channel has an average of 50,000 views / month!

I did a lot of content though (over 70 videos, 60+ of them in 2020), so keep in mind that: nothing comes easy!

February 17, 2020 Reached 4000 watch time hours - Able to Monetize

This is a huge accomplishment for my YouTube Channel because it's one of the requirements in order to get monetized.

You need:

  • 1000 subscribers
  • 4000 watch time hours

I've been working hard to reach this milestone in just over 3 months (started on 7th November 2019).

What I've learned is that Live Streams help A LOT to achieve this goal. Some of my Live Streams got around 48 hours watch time just after I was finishing a 2 hour stream, so that's a 24x ROI.

Plus, the live streams will remain on the channel as recordings so people who missed it can rewatch them later.

The next step will be for YouTube to actually approve my channel to be monetised. I did my part, so now it's their turn 馃槅.

It won't be a lot of income, probably around $70-80 / month, but it's much more than the $0 I'm making now. 馃憤

February 16, 2020 New Challenge: Conquering FreeCodeCamp Curriculum

I've set myself to do another great (crazy) challenge and that is: Conquering the entire Curriculum that is on freeCodeCamp.org

And not only that, but I'm doing it in a series of Live Streams! 馃槂

This way anyone who wants to learn web programming can come to my channel and watch me go through the entire Curriculum step by step.

I hope that this will also help to put my channel in higher rankings, getting more subscribers and more views, but we'll have to see how it goes! 馃

January 31, 2020 Finished the #31Days31Videos Challenge

Hurray! We did it! 馃コ

In January I uploaded 31 Videos (one, every single day) and I did 11 Live Streams.

It was a lot of work, but at the end of January I had an extra of:

  • 4,000 Subscribers
  • 2,600 Watch Time (hours)

I wrote an article which goes into much more details here: https://www.florin-pop.com/blog/created-a-video-a-day-for-a-month/

January 27, 2020 Biggest Sponsorship to Date ($1,500 / video)

I received an email from a company interested in sponsoring one of the videos from my YouTube Channel.

They are willing to pay the very nice amount of $1,500 for one video.
As of today, this is the biggest sponsorship deal I made for the channel! 馃帀

Let's hope that more will follow! 馃槂

January 25, 2020 5000 Subscribers

My initial goal was to hit 5k subscribers by the end of April, but I reached it 3 months earlier, so... This is crazy! 馃槺

The truth is that I've worked a lot in order to achieve this goal.
So far in 2020 I posted 25 videos (one video every single day) and I did 10 Live Streams = a total of 35 videos.

Next, I shared (almost) every single video on Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, Groups (FB, Discord, Slack). I tried to not be spammy, so I only posted in those groups which allowed.

I also did 3 collaborations (one of which boosted my channel with 1k subs in the last 2 days).

All in all, it was a crazy ride so far and the crazy will continue! 馃槂
See you at 10k (which was initially planned to be achieved by the end of June, but at this rate... I might get there sooner 馃槅)!

January 23, 2020 50,000 views

Reached 50k total views on all of my videos shortly after the 2 big mentions (described in the previous milestone).

But the main factor is the #31Days31Videos challenge that I started at the beginning of the year and the Live Streams. (So far in 2020 I posted 23 videos and did 10 Live Streams)

Next goal: 100,000 views! 馃槂
