Bio:

I earned an optics / physics PhD while providing for a growing family and eventually ended up working on laser fabrication of special materials for Nasa and other folk.

As I progressed, I taught myself to code and enjoyed it. I spent more and more time coding until finally I left physics and started building projects full time. I got lucky at that point and got to be a primary contributor as a remote contractor while two different projects went from ideas to many-million-dollar projects. The second of these projects, Blip billboards remains my primary gig.

Project:

My wife has training in elementary math education and we have 8 children at every level of education from pre-k to college. Over time, I've taken more and more of an interest in their math education, which I've been a bit unsatisfied with.

So now I'm building www.brighthike.com to see what we can do for the cause.

The web gives us the chance to move from guess-based philosophies of learning to evidence-based curricula. By teaching math through a dynamic web site, we can test the success of each stage in the curriculum and improve it over time. On the flip side, we can also see where each learner is and help them focus on making weak things strong.

I think this is going to be awesome.
