Great post! Thanks for sharing, Nathan. The 'make steady progress' section really resonated with me. I've been working on a project with a friend who has lead the charge on the backend, but I've taken ownership of the front end/design. Before we started I had no experience with HTML/CSS. One of the ways I've tracked my progress is by pushing up to Github which monitors contributions. Although I don't make a daily habit out of pushing, it allows me to track my progress in tangent with holding each other accountable for finishing work.
Thanks, and congrats on taking the initiative to teach yourself what you needed to make it happen! The importance of embracing self-education would have been a great section to add.
Nathan, great writup! I definitely agree on working on the project every day. I try to walk or run as often as I can to keep my energy and circulation up. I really like the look of that loop habit app, but it does not look like there is a version for the iphone.
Yeah, I feel a bit guilty recommending it knowing that iPhone owners won't be able to use it. It's a great app with a near perfect UI, so I hope someone gets around to porting it.
If anyone knows of a high-quality iPhone alternative, please mention it. It'd be great to have something I could recommend for both platforms.
Great and helpful article! This particularly resonates as I'm about to launch a product. I liked the part about your support network being something other than the usual - plenty of times my wife has helped me structure my thoughts.
Thanks Leandro, I'm really happy you found the article helpful!
An interesting wrinkle you made me think of: when I was a startup employee, I didn't lean too heavily on my wife for work-related support and feedback. But as a startup founder, she's my go-to sounding board for everything I do.
Good luck with your launch!
Great article! Can't stress enough on the importance of making progress towards your projects every. single. day. I've been doing it myself for the past 6 months and the results so far are great! Works very well with a co-founder since you can hold each other accountable on the goal of not skipping a day - even if it's just 30 minutes per day.
Thanks Martin!
Agree completely regarding mutual accountability with a co-founder. If I had one, I'd absolutely want to do the same. I'm glad to hear it's working well for your team.
