Ask IH: Do you use Google Tag Manager to make data driven decisions?

Hi Indie Hackers,

A few questions for you today:

  1. How many of you use Google Analytics to track site metrics?
  2. If you do use Google Analytics is it implemented using Google Tag Manager?
  3. How important is customer data to you on a scale of 1 - 10? (10 being the most important)

If you do not use Google Tag Manager would you be interested in a free "container" of basic tracking tags such as 404 Error tracking, Javascript tracking, page exits etc?

Finally, would you be inclined to pay for advanced tracking solutions such as specific site interactions, customer pain point identification, schema markup, etc? If no, why?

I've tried implementing Tag Manager with Wordpress but even then it's crazy complicated to install and set up. It also features some of the worst admin design I've seen, even by Google's terrible standards. Finally decided it's not worth the headache, that it's far easier to embed each tracking code in the source code.

Installing the GTM Tracking code is very similar to installing the Google Analytics tracking code.

Is your issue actually creating the tags and triggers within the GTM interface?
