Show IH: Flip List - See the most profitable products on the Internet

FlipList

Hey, IH!

I created this landing page MVP last night along with a script I wrote gather and compile online product information.

The idea is that users subscribe to our service, and then instead of having to scour Craigslist for cheap/lot deals or spending hours sourcing at retail stores, they can use our service and simply.. not have to do that anymore.

This project comes out of a need for myself, so even if no one signs up I still might make it anyway.

What do you think of the landing page? If you were someone who bought and sold products online for profit, do you think this would be valuable to you? Would you spend money on it? How is my pricing?

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't sharing retail arbitrage opportunities with audiences that intend to capitalize on them immediately close the gap?

The most profitable products would immediately stop being so as other users jump on the opportunity and compete with each other by shrinking margins.

Am I finding small quantity or small supply products with this and buying them all up? Like some time-sensitive opportunity of 50 units on eBay? or am I finding long-term suppliers that I would work with for many orders?

I wouldn't consider selling these products let alone subscribing in its current form because the list is basically a guarantee that the value of your purchased goods is going to decay quite rapidly.

If it became clear that the opportunities I take advantage of were mine and mine alone... that this tool didn't just enable my competition to lower their prices even more.

Like if I could get access to a list of huge profit products, and by placing an order with the supplier that listing was kind of hidden from other people for a while as long as I ordered a set # of units? That would be super valuable to me, knowing that I could snag an opportunity without worrying and it'd probably net you some sweet affiliate dollars.

$50/month hides a listing for a few days
$1000/month hides a profitable product from other users for a full quarter...

Thanks for your comment, Chris. This got me thinking, what if instead of all the users seeing all the products at a fixed price, what if users paid an amount proportional to the estimated profit of the products they would see? So, say a user only wanted to pay $50 a month, they would get a small list of products, where the estimated profit for those products adds up to $100. Those products would then be "eliminated" from the pool. If a user wants $3000 in profitable listings, they pay $1500 and then no one else can see those listings.

Ah interesting... I don't think I'd pay $50 to make $100 profit since there's so much other work involved but I get the idea. Would be even more valuable if your tool snagged product descriptions and product images etc. Everything I need to just turn around pop em into Shopify.

How many products can your tool possibly scrape? I would worry that I'd be selling listings to members that they never use and they become unavailable to other users, reducing the overall value of the service. I was imagining that perhaps listings could be obfuscated somehow so users can see enough to know they want to take advantage of the offer but they have to spend some kind of finite resource to actually contact the supplier, and then the act of placing an order could potentially be what takes a listing offline for everyone else for a set period of time. If it turned out super profitable for that user, I'd want to continue paying you just to never re-list it lol.

A long-term goal could be to never show the actual suppliers, and you make the buys and sell them to users for a small cut.

Cool idea. I'd want to see pricing before I sign up though

To be honest, I haven't really decided on a pricing model. The best option seems to be either charging a large amount for only a few subscribers in order to reduce the collapse of the margins of the products we find, or allow users to "buy" listings so other users can't see them, and then that opportunity is theirs to exploit.

One thing to keep in mind is that if the price was low a lot of people would probably subscribe and then not use it

Is it possible to drill down by niche? Fashion or Fitness only, for example.

Sure! The plan was to scrape the top 1000 products in every Amazon category, and then on the website use filters so the users can see exactly what products they would want to buy/sell.
