Created an app, it's free with ads. Now what do I do?

There are tons of comments and tutorials about promoting paid apps but most of the articles I've read involve paying for some sort of advertising or creating an email list to update users.

The issue is, I really don't have much to update people with if I were to collect emails and paid promotion is kind of out of the question since it's a free app with a simple banner ad.

Other than just waiting to hope people pick up on it, what else can I do?

Android App info:
http://cryptocontactsapp.com
Crypto Contacts
Makes storing and sharing your newly generated public key crypto addresses simple and easy while on the go. It also includes a conversion calculator and shows a general average crypto price for your crypto currencies.

(also I'd love some feedback or feature suggestions if you have any)

Thanks!

I'd look into some of the following activities

    • forums / chats / community sites which are related to the niche (engaging 1-on-1, asking for ideas & feedback instead of "promoting")
    • engaging 1-on-1 on twitter or other public networks, same process as above
    • trying to be featured on niche blogs around the topic (research what they are writing about and why your thing is "newsworthy" - basic PR stuff)
    • think about "why any existing user would tell his friends about the app"?
    • Think about Appstore "SEO" -> What are the people searching for in the appstores which SHOULD find and download your app. -> Optimize your descriptions, images, etc.

      Very useful tips!

Participate in forums/similar and get known as "that guy who makes that Crypto Contacts app".

If you have a product made for a niche, you should be active in that niche in at least one area - forum, meet-ups, etc.

Try out Narrow.io. I built it to solve this problem.

Also, I'd suggest removing the ads and instead charging $2.99 to download the app. Best of luck!
