Hire A Remote Intern For Your Startup

Remote Internships – Virtual And Remote Interships

Don't restrict yourself geographically. Get an internship remotely and gain experience with some of the top companies in the world.

In 2011, I started a company called CyberInterns.com (after being a virtual intern myself) to help students find remote internships: http://www.adweek.com/digital/coverawards-dot-com-cyberinterns-mark-petsetsky-taran-tarriero/?ref=producthunt. I ended up shutting it down as I got busy with another job.

Recently, I was trying to help a friend's younger brother find a remote internship at a great startup and had to go through tons of crappy sites and listings. So, I decided to bring Cyber Interns back with RemoteInternships.co!

I curate all the listings on the site to make sure only quality virtual internships are available.

Currently focusing on startups looking for amazing marketing, design, development, and editorial talent. Imagine living in Omaha, NE and being able to intern for a hot mobile app in SF?

Side note: I know most people are against unpaid internships, but the unpaid internships on the site are not B.S. / people trying to abuse the system. I try to find quality positions from reputable companies looking to hire the best talent (paid or unpaid). At the right company, an unpaid internship can provide valuable experience and be great for building up your portfolio / resume.

the unpaid internships on the site are not B.S.

How so? Most of the listed organisation are somewhat unknown for-profit company.

At the right company, an unpaid internship can provide valuable experience and be great for building up your portfolio / resume.

And at a the right company, a paid internship can provide valuable experience and be great for building up your portfolio / resume in addition to empower you to be able to pay for your bread.

If you are creating value for a for-profit company, please, don't give away your time for free, even if you are "learning" from them. You are simply devaluating yourself to nothing.

Seriously, unpaid internships are toxic by their nature. If a company literally cannot afford another 0.5 FTE for a few months, then they cannot afford to let their existing employees spend any time mentoring unpaid interns due to their clearly urgent revenue crisis.

Internships are billed as training programs, but the training is to do real work in a role which is more temporary and more closely monitored than a regular employee. If someone is generating value for a company (even non-profits in almost every case) they need to be paid, full stop.

Sorry for the rant but I’ve seen several dear friends be exploited by unpaid internships, all for otherwise well-regarded local companies. None of them walked away feeling good about that experience, so now this topic tends to strike a nerve with me.

As for the topic at hand, you clearly recognize that “most people are against unpaid internships”. Don’t you think that quality candidates will see that some proportion of your internships on offer are unpaid, and then become suspicious of your other offerings and go elsewhere? Quality employers will only use your platform if they keep getting access to good candidates. The best way to keep good candidates on the platform is to make sure they only have good options available. Unpaid internships are unpopular with good candidates even if you (mistakenly imho) reject the idea that they are toxic.
