I want to find a technical partner to launch a product with me. Tips and advices?
Hi there, I've had an idea about a product for a while (a Instagram Stories analytics tool) that I see potential and want to build it.
It's not just an idea anymore, I've done the layout for my project, including features, some marketing ideas, tech stack I can use etc.
I have also already validated it with a landing page and created some really basic prototypes. But the thing is: if I wanted to build it myself it would take me months of work and I would just end up building something not as good as someone with more experience.
Do you have any tips of how I can find and work with a developer/technical person? I don't plan to scale it to a full blown startup but rather a profitable side project, but it's a founder relationship nonetheless.
If you guys have gone through a similar experience I would love to hear all the advice you have. For me it's important not only to know where to look for a partner but also how can I make sure (or as close to making sure as possible) that he/she is a good person to work with and that we'll have a good partnership? What should I disclose about my project when first talking with interested people? etc.
And just in case you want to know what I'm looking for this particular project, someone who knows:
- Facebook/Instagram Graph API
- Google Apps Script (and add on best practices)
- How to best setup a payment option.

If you're not technical you shouldn't be picking the tech stack.
When you say you've validated it what do you mean? Do you have paying customers already?
If you as a non-developer could build it in a few months then you're probably best off just paying a developer to build it for you instead of giving up 50% of your equity.
I don't have paying customer, but I built a landing page and had a Buy Now button with a price tag on it, I proceeded with the buying process, obviously but my goal was to simulate as close as possible if people would be interested.
Also in my use and talking to people I know and work with I think there's demand for it. Of course I can't guarantee it's going to be a financial success (who can) but I'm sure it's not a terrible ideia either
About the tech stack, it's not set in stone but I did some study already to check what would be possible/good fit, so I have an ideia of what might work. Not assuming it's the right choice though
wouldn't the analytics already be provided by the instagram api? also, it doesn't seem like there are that many data points for only instagram stories unless i'm missing something??
The instagram API provides the data about the stories, but the in app analytics are not the best (it only works in your phone, you can't export it etc.). The idea would be to build a specific product focused on Stories at first. The idea would be to help marketing teams doing their social media posts with instagram but can't easily measure their Stories success.
the analytics are crap! that's actually why i converted my pages back to non-business accounts :) but since the analytics that IG provides are crap, how do you imagine deriving data points therefrom in order to create an effective analytics platform?
I was thinking about getting the information FB gives us (time published, impressions, reach, replies, exits, taps forward and back) and first put it in a Google Sheets. From there I can at least get some useful insights, like best time to post, if your stories are doing better or worse than last week etc.
In the future I can even imagine using AI to analise the media and get to a conclusion of what works best (but that's way ahead of what I plan now, just a possibility I can see).
