Turning off all* servers after 9 years

Today I am turning off the last virtual servers* that my company ran for the past years, some of them dating back to 2009. Some of you might be building their first company now and think why would you post something like that - I think it's been a wonderful journey throughout the past 9 years. My company started as a Gaming Community that made quiet some money, growing into hosting gameservers, having exclusive deals with a indie gamedev studio, moving on to (dedicated, VPS, web-) hosting, powering some more communities and finally ending up being a production company, first for livestreaming, then producing large scale TV ads for subsidiaries of large, German TV stations.

Since day one I have seen my company as a playground, doing what you like, learning how to do things, growing, evolving it into something different. (Over and over again). In 2017 I met Chris ueland through one of my side projects and joined his team, learning and playing even more in new fields, still contributing with all the knowledge I earned during running my own company.

I always feared the day where I would turn off majority of my companies machines. It's scary. Now, where I am done shutting everything down (*from last year over 50 virtual servers to now 8 virtual servers) except servers that are absolutely required (like mail and some very minor internal stuff I still do with my company), I have figured out that it actually feels pretty good to do some cleanup and get rid of old machines that were primarily around because we needed it at some point.
