Most of us are aware that exercise is important to our well-being. This however is advice that seems to be hard to follow, almost like "Always talk to users" or "Don't spend too much time working on an MVP"
- Do you have any fitness goals?
- What would you say is your biggest challenge to meeting them? Time, motivation, nutrition, money?
- What have you tried? What has worked and what hasn't?
- How do you think this challenge can be overcome?
- What would a solution to this look like? Some kind of app or platform maybe?
I'm walking around the city for about 4-5km every day or two, because I sit too long, drive to and back from the office, all the day sitting and lying down, it's really too much.
So I really like playing group sports: the camaraderie and the competition make me exert myself without even thinking about exercising!
As an indie hacker, my schedule is often really unpredictable, so I can't really join a proper team and commit regularly.
I'd really love to be able to find groups of people who want to regularly play sports casually – a sort of "We're going to be playing football* between 7 and 9:30 – show up and join a team" arrangement.
I agree Michael. That's kind of the premise behind https://www.scramblenow.com/. I would really love to know what you think about this and how you think I can grow it into something that someone like you would be willing to use.
Hi Elijah,
Physical well being is high on my list of priorities, so I thought I'd chime in. I used to be rather "sporty", playing competitive sports on a high level. But now, with a demanding day job and a newborn, sports have had to take a backseat.
As you can imagine, it's hard to carve out large blocks of time during the week. I still want to feel good and in shape though, so I've started to take another route: do a little bit every day. Last year, I convinced some friends to do 20 push ups a day with me and that was a major success. This year I convinced some additional people, we're probably going to go for 10k push ups (about 27/day) and 90 mins of some type of cardio every week.
One of the upsides is that even if you have a shitty day, you can do your push ups and get a "win". Another is that once you string a couple of days together in a streak, you don't want to lose your streak. And lastly, having your friends in the game with you allows for endless bantering and positive peer pressure :-)
I wrote some more about my thinking behind it here: https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/how-do-you-want-to-fill-your-day-72abcceeab?commentId=-L-XZtAkYzz79pxsA-jz and I'm writing a little app to track progress called https://longgoals.io (open beta)
hope this helps!
It certainly does smu. This is a great initiative. Thanks for taking the time to share this.
