Feedback on my $15 logo

Design is all about problem solving, which makes your approach to creating a logo impressive. Good job hacking together a minimum viable brand.

As other commenters have said, there are elements that make the logo seem dated, such as the tech-y font and gradients. The mark itself is problematic because it won't scale well, which is essential in a world where logos "live" in many different places.

(The font I used is Heebo, which is still a Google Web Font.)

The logo is great, but as others have mentioned it gives a feeling of a different era, almost like a free php hosting company back in the early 2000s. This by the way could be great depending on the demographic you are aiming for.

If you just need a placeholder until later, I have two little suggestions:

• Apply solid colors instead of gradients, as they result in too much information density. "Flat design" is also easier to parse on the eye.

• You could also just go for "lo" as the favicon to solve this issue, as the globe is too detailed and won't scale down well.

My personal recommendation would be to not waste too much more time on this, a logo is the last thing to kill a project, and you're already kinda got the 80/20.

Came in a bit late. I looked at your original and thought the same thing - it looks dated. Then I looked at your update and thought it looks a lot better.

I could still go either way on the globe. But, more importantly, I think it looks fine, and it should get you far enough to start with. No need to stress over the logo so early :)

To have a more modern and versatile logo you should look into having a flat design. It can be as simple as going to flaticon, downloading an image you like, and tossing text underneath. It should only be a few colors too, with no fades. This will make it look a lot more simple and modern, and will work great on websites, business cards, slide decks, etc.

Looks outdated and uses design references from the 00's (gradients, font).

You can hardly create an icon from it when you are scaling it down. Also, the choice of colors is rather 'clueless' if you want to be perceived modern

Jeff, $15 is a very small price. Its almost free.
Irrespective of the price, I am not very impressed with the logo. It seems very generic and 'seen before'. I would recommend you to gun for something more memorable. I have had a great experience runnin 99designs.com contest for logos. You get many many options, and in the end I was satisfied with what I got.
