Solo makers have the drive to create new products and the intuition + knowledge for a good MVP. The trouble is in the making. We all know the pain of setting up a development team, writing specs etc. We're smart enough to do the initial design/development by ourselves. The question is what are the best development combos for a solo founder - not a programmer but eager to learn, to develop an ecosystem consisting of:
Say one idea for a combo might be: React + Contentful + Netlify + Stripe + Webflow
Do you have any ideas for other combos? Any ups and downs of specific frameworks and tools?
Best,
Greg
React / React native for client app
Parse server / mongo for backend
Digital ocean for hosting
I like parse server because many basic stuff you need like user management, ACL, for exemple are already done. You can create all your model data and visualize it from the Dashboard and it have many sdk for different language ! So you can focus on your client app !
There is no "best". The only thing that matters is what do you like working with and what are you comfortable with. Basically every framework or any stack will work. Just remember you might not need a fancy framework. html + css + jquery works aswell and is way easier to learn.
This is how I look at it:
Low complexity MVP:
Higher complexity:
Then you could still add Hubspot Free for your Sales/Marketing side.
Thank you for the reply Jeroen! Sure there's no best one - I'm just curious what others are using and your list seems really solid. I keep learning and trying to best allocate my efforts. Thanks!
Andrew from BulletTrain just did a cool tweet today looking at different tools and libraries for different platforms, asking people for input: you may want to check it out for some ideas: https://twitter.com/andrewculver/status/1073353186688172032
This looks like a great resourse, thanks!
I'm not a coder, but I've been learning about web apps and how they are built. Started to learn about Rails.
So for me currently what I've identified for my project:
Rails + (some kind of JS tbd) + BulletTrain + Stripe
to add still:
For me rails seems to be the easiest to get things going in, and lots of gems to help build things out fairly quickly.
Thanks for the input, Tony! Will check out this stack.
