Don't forget about service workers! (Meteor Backend)

this product

Hiya folks! Just launched partial offline and add to home screen on https://getwelcomehome.app using a lovely service worker.

If you're using meteor as your backend, this gets a little tricky, but some awesome folks have solved this problem which is the main reason for this post. Check out this repo for info https://github.com/NitroBAY/meteor-service-worker

The other gotcha is meteor creates their own manifest.json file, so in order to have the necessary info for the add to home screen, you need to drop a file with a different name (prodmanifest.json) in your public folder and then in your index.html or main.html include <link rel='manifest' href='prodmanifest.json'>

This is a quick way to get the feeling of a native app without building one when testing a product. Keep this in your toolbox. Now with a service worker registered, one can start prompting to add to home screen and send push notifications.
