Would a newsletter on mobile app rankings be useful?
I am an entrepreneur from Brooklyn, NY. These days I’m a founder at Bill Karma (www.getbillkarma.com) - a smart money management app for iOS; more on this another day. I was introduced to this community by my friend and fellow entrepreneur @dopeboy.
I’m writing to get feedback on a small side project idea. I have built a program to aggregate data on app rankings in any category from both Apple and Android ecosystems. Some key metrics include estimated revenue, ranking, comments, etc.
I initially hacked together this program just to get a sense of what’s trending by analyzing key metrics that were not readily available (both at aggregate and solo levels) looking at AppStore or other third party tools.
I’m thinking this data can be useful to others. What if there is a monthly newsletter that publishes this data. Is there a market for this data? What is the appetite of this market if it exists?

It might be valuable to folks who are keeping an eye out on trending products/apps/platforms and are looking to jump early on something, just as it picks up.
Some sort of a "velocity" metric would be a good indicator.
For example, I might be too lazy to spend time on each new app, to taste/test/try it, but I would definitely be interested in jumping on Instagram in its early days, when there we "some" signs that time investment in the platform might be worth it.

It might make sense to focus on a vertical here, ideally one with a lot of movement. That also clarifies where you should solicit feedback from.
Interesting! Vertical as in app category? What vertical you think can be more suitable? Or what is the best way to find one other than a brute-force approach?
