Will ChatGPT take your job? The future of work and automation

In the mids of the panic and mass hysteria around job automation, we often overlook the underlying trends that got us here in the first place. In this video I talk about what have been the real drivers of headcount reduction and what the future of work might look like.

I think it's more likely they assist in your job rather than takes it.

    1. 1

I see it this way too - a super tool.

  2. 3

Great question! While it's true that advances in automation and AI have the potential to impact the job market, I believe that ChatGPT and other AI technologies can complement human workers rather than replace them entirely.

    1. 1

100% agree! I think new workspaces and areas of development will be unlocked - things might get a bit more abstract but no doubt there will be opportunities.

  3. 2

I don't really think it'll take our jobs (though some of them as other people mention here will be taken out).. but it'll for sure get us out of repetitive stuff AND (and I find it one of the best things) will boost our productivity to levels we couldn't think of before..

For instance: if one can give the right input to, let's say chat gpt, and then follow up with the right questions, we can quickly have step by step guides, examples and so, on how to tackle almost any problem we may be facing in our day-to-day job, biz, etc. And this will begin to make smart employees (who are using AI to boost their outcomes) standout from the crowd

    --

Today I inclined to think the winners will be these people, those who understand this and use this tech as a productivity booster.. giving the right input and context, adding creativity and execution on top of what AI is outputting to craft great solutions to problems in record time

There are 4 situations where AI has the max chance of taking away your job (you can find a ton of AI products attempting to automate these tasks here: https://www.microsaasdb.com/community/Artificial Intelligence ):

    1. Digital gig workers (fiverr, upwork) paid on a per-gig basis -> Almost any digital task being outsourced can and will soon be productized by AI. Think about AI logo maker, resume writer etc.
    2. Online blue-collar jobs- SEO writer, online designers, landing page builders etc. can be automated unless it's highly specialized and involves thinking
    3. People doing lots of busy work- think about managers and entry level workers who have repetitive tasks (like note-taking, scheduling meetings, writing emails by customizing same content for different recipients)
    4. Work involving creation of commodity projects (like sales decks, sales assets, website mockups)
  5. 2

I don't think Ai can replace humans but it can enhance our work with 10x.

  6. 2

If the general AI happens, we all have to be replaced.

If it does not happen, than we won't be replaced.

The issue is that general AI won't happen, but many organizations will try to convince the public it did happen.

    1. 1

I think there is huge truth in this statement.

  7. 2

yes sure anything can happen in future. might be it can complemate some times but i hope it cannot replaced.

    • Nope. definitely not. I have zero panic. Only joy.
    • Generative AI affords citizens a tool to do the tedious tasks in vast range of areas. Leaving more time for savvy citizen to focus on what really matters.
    • Generative AI opens up possibility of quality over quantity. Too long the internet has enabled cheap useless stuff being produced (content) and made (useless apps).
    • Generative AI has enabled return to a distraction free and marketing noise free use of internet (chatgpt plus subscription). = Relief!

Thanks for commenting! yep i totally agree, I can imagine the future of work will have more degrees of creativity, abstract thinking, higher level thinking and the ability to join the dogs.

Honestly, as a young aspiring programmer, I'm worried (feel a bit alone in this thought btw ahah).

Maybe it's related to my immaturity on the job market but nevertheless, when I see the progress that the Chat-GPT model has made in a few months for a colossal improvement between GPT-3 and GPT-4, I tell myself that in the years to come what will it give...

Okay, right now it's great as an assistant, but what will it be like in a few months, years, decades?

Many seem to think (or reassure themselves) that only Junior Dev positions will be impacted in the future. Let's say it will be the case, imagine the impassable chasm for the Junior Devs who won't be hired because of the fact that an AI costing a few tens of euros can do their job. Moreover, what is to say that Senior Devs won't end up being impacted in the same way, since there is no reason why the AI won't progress after reaching the Junior Dev level.

Some say that humans will always have more creativity than AI etc... But what about when AGIs will be deployed? Because even if it doesn't seem to be tomorrow, in my opinion and in the opinion of many experts in the field, it's still closer than we expect imo.

DISCLAIMER: I am not an AI expert, it is just my thougths and my doubts.

  10. 1

I don't think ChatGPT will take your job. It will make the process simpler than before.

  11. 1

At the moment, no. However, if AI is able to start designing complex systems and coming up plans to implement them, I will definitely start getting worried.

  12. 1

Look at the Microsoft Excel ad from 1990 and you'll notice an interesting relationship to what's happening now.

  13. 1

The subject of work and automation in the future is multifaceted. Although certain occupations may be susceptible to automation in the upcoming years, it is equally important to recognize that technological advancements may bring about fresh professions and industries. https://apktechstore.com/gangstar-vegas-mod-apk/

  14. 1

The future of work and automation is a complex topic, and while it is true that some jobs may be automated in the coming years, it is also important to consider that new jobs and industries may emerge as a result of technological advancements. It is crucial for individuals and organizations to adapt to these changes and acquire the skills necessary to thrive in the changing job market. Ultimately, the role of automation should be to enhance human productivity and well-being, rather than replace human workers.

  15. 1

When everyone is using ai, it means that no one is using ai

  16. 1

ChatGPT cannot do the job if not used correctly!

ChatGPT is currently assisting many businesses in making their work more efficient.

  17. 1

AI and automation technologies are best suited for tasks that are repetitive, predictable, and require large amounts of data processing, while human workers are better equipped for tasks that require creativity, empathy, and complex decision-making. Therefore, it is more likely that AI will augment human workers rather than replace them.

  18. 1

I don't think the job automation will be as rapid as people think. In 10 years the world will be vastly different. The global creator economy is rapidly expanding.

It will feel fast, but public generative AI is opening up entirely new ways to build cool stuff both for public good as well as business. All you need is an internet connection and you have a Wolfram-level personal assistant.

Imagine how much human potential was just unlocked. It seems like a lazier life could get easier, but who really wants that.

Stay optimistic. All you need to do now is bias towards action and only your imagination is the limit.

  19. 1

I think tech jobs won't replaced, but they will adapt and require higher levels of abstraction that AI cannot yet do

  20. 1

I believe it would enhance efficiency of workers, as it will become a new required skill they need to have like ability to code or work with Excel. Modern AI is not smart enough in niche tasks to be fully trusted, so human guidance is vital for great results.

    1. 1

This is the best answer I have seen so far since the emergence of Chatgpt and the debate of whether it’s here to take our jobs or not. Short and informative.

  21. 1

I do think it'll reduce the need to hire for some lower-level roles, I've been using it for a lot of things I would outsource before already. But for other roles, I think it'll end up becoming a skill people add to their resumes.

    "Professional Prompt Writer"

    1. 1

Ah Ah😂… “Professional Prompt Writer”, as funny as this seems, you are right. With Chatgpt, the winner is the one who can write best prompts to get the best outputs.

      1. 1

prompt is easy peasy, low grade use of chatgpt
gpt4 is teaching me to build my first iphone app

  22. 1

It might occur in the future. however, it might take a while.

  23. 1

I don't ever think so but i think it will somehow shrink the total number of open positions.

  24. 0

Mass refusal of use ends AI doesn't it 🤔

    1. 1

Maybe, but whatever happens there will never be unity at that level.

The human being is by definition fundamentally selfish as Hobbes said. So if some people stop using AIs, they will be less competitive than those who don't follow this trend, so there will be a kind of injustice and everyone will end up using AIs again etc...
