$15000 from selling a Notion template: the process and results

3 weeks ago, as I thought about how I could become a hyper freelance myself, I decided to launch a product. Here are the steps I followed:

  1. created a Gumroad account
  2. designed a nice mockup presentation
  3. set the product to launch on September 15, pre-selling at half the price ($38)
  4. shared the landing page to a few work friends and wrote an IH post

I got 12 pre-sells in 2 days. I was onto something.
So I actually created the pack.
I locked myself into my room for a full week. Launched it on September 15, got some feedback, applied improvements, then translated the pack with Deepl in French, in a day.

This gave me the testimonials I wanted to launch the product on ProductHunt, which I did today. It's currently #1st of the day and I expect to make about 10 more sales from there.

You may know Marie Poulin, I'll be doing a livestream with her this saturday to present the pack too, and this is probably going to bring a few sales too.

I've put 2 full weeks of work for $2000 so far. This is good. I'm going to make a living creating stuff on the web. My mom's gonna be proud. Here's the link if you want to check it out.

The goal of this post is to show you that this is possible. Yes. You can make a bit of money selling assets you've already created. And it's a fun journey, a lot to learn about marketing and building partnerships with people online.
Let me know if I can help,

Yours truly

EDIT: Currently at $4000 with the PH launch!
EDIT 2: Currently at $6500 with Marie Poulin's livestream!
EDIT 3: Currently at $11000 by being #2 product of the week on PH!
EDIT 4: 2 months later at $16000...

I’m blown away by the beautiful landing page you set up. I think the content and the messaging is so spot on. The preview video was the first thing I clicked on and it gave me a very strong sense of what the pack is about.

Congratulations on your success thus far, and I imagine it’s only going to get bigger!

Woah pretty interesting. I think Notion (and simlar products that are gaining traction) are slowly turning into platforms, so there will be an opportunity for a) templates b) an app marketplace I'm pretty sure they'll open if they continue to grow.

I'm talking quite a lot to Valentin Geffroy these days who's building exactly that, a marketplace around Notion. You should check it out: https://www.notioneverything.com/ Cheers!

    Why I created Obsidian OS

I am a product designer and founder of 3 companies. Running companies, managing projects and personal life are altogether a complex objectives. I wanted to create a system to eliminate noise and build a kind of second brain. Notion as a product is very unique and a powerful tool which I used to create a system: Obsidian- Unified workflow notion system.

The main concerns with these type of systems are they tend to break easily and needs lot of efforts or inputs to manage a Notion system. So I built this system in a manner that it takes very minimal efforts to manage and will be self expandable so that it doesn't break easily.

Obsidian Notion System added value to my life and helped me reduce noise around me. So, I would like to share this system with rest of the world.

Life is a game of patterns. The more we observe and analyse them, the more deeply we understand how the world works around us. One of the key insights of the systems approach has been the realization that the network is a pattern that is common to all life. This Obsidian OS is conceptually designed based on patterns and how each relative components functions effectively to work as a second brain for an individual.

The system is organized into 5 Key Sections:

Plan: Area dedicated towards planning, goal discovery and vision map.
Work: Area focused on work related components to manage assignments and projects
Review: Comprised of area which requires information analysis and review
Track: Area focused on dynamic components which requires constant tracking
Extras: Area contains additional sub areas like Personal space, dashboard, Shortcuts and database.

    Includes:

Obsidian OS includes Notion template and all additional components associated with system efficiency and accessibility.

    30+ Template sections
    200+ Resources
    20 Widgets (Including setup documentation)
Icon library (Minimalistic - Light and Dark)
Document Library (Agreements, Proposals and Templates)
Notion Setup Guide (Sections in templates)
