Help me price my SaaS product

Hey everyone, I’m struggling to price my SaaS product and I’d appreciate some help!

A bit of context on my product (Probe):

  • It's an AI interviewer.
  • Finds and interviews people in your target market.
  • Gives you neat summaries of these chats.

You get solid customer research with just 5-10 minutes of your time, and it's done within the same day.

If this is a product you think you’d use and pay for, I'd really appreciate a minute of your time!

Could you respond to this quick survey about how much you’d be willing to pay for something like Probe? It's just 4 questions: here.

You can respond with how much you'd pay for each individual interview, or for a bundle of interviews – like $X for 25 interviews for example. Just clarify it in your response :)

Really appreciate your help. Thanks! 🙌

Hi @Savyyy 👋 firstly, really cool product!

I've just given it a go. I'll admit, I was initially a bit skeptical about the idea, but after trying it, I actually thought the product was really interesting and I could definitely see some value in it.

I'm not sure if this is a product I'd pay for at this stage. The reason being, the product I'm working on is still in the early stages and I want to be having conversations with users myself instead of using AI. It would also still take work to find participants, handle incentives etc.

That said, if Probe also handled recruiting participants, I think I would have already bought some interviews, and I'd probably pay around £15-£20 per interview. I'm happy to pay for convenience, or to get results quickly.

I actually pay for a similar tool called UserBrain, which is unmoderated usability testing. I pay for that because it's easy to set up tests and it deals with all of the recruitment for me and within minutes I have responses.

I also had a few bits of feedback after trying out Probe, so thought I'd share it with you:

    • I would have liked to have skipped the typing animation, it got a little tedious after a few questions.
    • I found by habit I was pressing shift + return to insert a new line, but realised that is the shortcut to send my response. As a result, I ended up sending a response earlier than I'd like.
    • It wasn't immediately clear when the conversation ended. It showed 100% completion but kept asking questions. I eventually figured out I had to end the conversation.
    • You mentioned the survey was about how much to pay for Probe, but it never asked me about it. The questions focused mainly on pricing my own product and then went off on a tangent (asking about acquisition strategy, SEO keywords.

    I hope this was helpful!

My background is in UX, and I have done user interviews in the past, so would be more than happy to have a chat further if you had any questions/wanted any more feedback.

Hey @austerberry, thanks for the amazing feedback! 🙌

I'm working on a feature that'll find participants in your target market, so you won't have to handle recruitment yourself! The AI interview conducting + recruitment is what I'm struggling to price.

Just to clarify, when you mentioned £15-£20 per interview, are you talking about:

      • Paying that amount for the software to find a participant that you interview yourself,
      • Or is it the cost for Probe to handle the whole interview, including finding a participant?

You mentioned the survey was about how much to pay for Probe, but it never asked me about it.

Thanks for pointing that out! It should be fixed now and ask the correct questions :) Appreciate the UX suggestions, too – I've just added those to the backlog!

        No problem!

I would say £15-£20 for it all, recruitment, incentives and the interview.

Great, thanks for following up 😊

    Hello @Savyyy,

Firstly, great product! I'll definitely give it a try.

Similar to @Germerlo, I've observed a potential issue with the progress bar. Consider adding a back-to button to ensure a clear end to the interview. A simple link with the interview ID in the URL's search parameters could offer dev possibilities.

This brings me to the question: Are callbacks feasible? I'm interested in the ability to flag a user as completed once they finish the interview, for discounts etc.

    1. 1

Thanks @groll, appreciate you giving it a go!

I have navigation pretty high on the backlog, so I will hopefully get to it soon. Thanks for the feedback 😊

I'm curious, did you want to use Probe to interview your existing users, rather than do customer discovery with your target audience? I'm planning on pivoting Probe to a tool that finds AND interviews users for you. And for simplicity, I was going to remove the ability to share AI interviews to anyone using a link (which, is the current state of the product on heyprobe.com).

Reason being: almost all Probe's beta users didn't find respondents to their interviews, and frequently requested that Probe find participants for them.

This brings me to the question: Are callbacks feasible? I'm interested in the ability to flag a user as completed once they finish the interview, for discounts etc.

Yes, if I leave in the ability to share Probe's interview link to anyone, I could definitely add a way to automatically track which users have completed the interviews! But, this may be a little lower priority at the moment. Though, with the current version of Probe, you can collect respondent's emails and provide them discounts manually.

Hey Savannah! I've jut completed the survey. So interesting. BTW it's weird to se the progress bar because it looks like it will trigger 10 questions but there are only 4.

    1. 1

Thanks for giving it a go, Germán :)

Nice catch, I added an override to this specific interview so that it wouldn't ask follow-up questions since the answers are all quantitative. As a result, the interview ended up being much shorter than usual and lead to that bug! (Other interviews won't have this problem 😋)

omggg why I haven't know your product earlier.... I just finished our first customer interviews

Lol! Best of luck with your product @tradao004 :)

Thanks a lot. It would be great if you can take a look at our pricing page: https://www.save.day/pricing

    Hi,

I think you can start with a FREE Trial and get users as much as possible.
Then put a low pricing saying 50% off as a promotional offer.
If the response is good you can increase the price, if the response is so so keep in that price.
This way you can test the pricing.

Nice idea, for me the product was really slow and not loading. Are any issues happening right now?

    1. 1

Hey, thanks for giving it a try @dennisteichmann :)

It normally only has a few second delay per question, but I was experimenting with a different model for this interview in particular, which is a bit slower. Did you find it took more than ~10 seconds to load a question, or sometimes didn't load at all?

Nice tool. Like others mentioned, the survey does not end.. this statement keeps repeating.

"Alright, if you ever have any questions or need assistance in the future, don't hesitate to reach out. Have a great day!"

    1. 1

      Thanks @halcyon!

That's just an issue with this interview in particular, thankfully. I did a manual override to stop it from asking follow-ups, since I was only asking quantitative questions that didn't need "digging deeper". I think that hack caused some confusion – sorry about that and appreciate you pointing it out :)

Hi there! It sounds like your product, Probe, will revolutionise customer research. I completed your survey and I'm enthusiastic about it's possibilities.

In terms of the cost, I'd be prepared to spend more for the speed and ease it provides.

Thanks for the kind words @premsaini 🙌

When it comes to pricing a SaaS product, it's important to consider the value it provides to customers. In your case, Probe offers a quick and efficient way to conduct customer research, which can save time and resources for businesses. To determine an appropriate price point, you may want to take the following steps:

Conduct market research: Look at similar products in the market and see what they charge. This will help you get an idea of what customers are willing to pay for this type of service.

Determine your costs: Calculate the costs associated with developing and running the software, as well as any marketing or sales expenses. This will give you a baseline for the minimum amount you need to charge to make a profit.

Consider your target market: Think about the industries and types of businesses that would benefit most from your product. This can help you tailor your pricing strategy to meet their needs and budgets.

Test different price points: Consider offering different pricing tiers or bundles to see what resonates best with your target market. You can also offer free trials or discounted rates to early adopters to gather feedback and refine your pricing strategy.

Remember, pricing is not set in stone and can be adjusted over time based on customer feedback and market conditions. Good luck!

What is the point in replying with ChatGPT-generated responses?

That was a very interesting idea. I can imagine how I could personally use it in my work. but this idea needs to grow. I think an interview is more than just Q&A. In some cases, the interviewer needs to mention or check some links, so I think they need more capabilities to handle such things.

The initial setup was a little slow. We need more speed in AI. AI comes to speeding up our lives, so more speed, please.

Back to the core idea, probably many entrepreneurs prefer to run their first interview personally. because they need to check more factors like face, tone, etc.

Maybe it's not ideal for every first interview.

I liked the emoji part; it humanizes the interview.

Also, try to put a limit on the end of conversation; I keep answering questions until I find there is an "end conversation" button in there!

I have an MVP and need to get feedback from users; this app could help me do that.
So I think paying for this app could be considered a "temporary plan" or a "long-term plan."

You could even consider charging the account for a specific date.

If I want to pay for your app right now with these capabilities, I'll do that, like

$15 monthly (limitation on number of interviews and number of questions)

    or

$15 for 25 interviews (charge account for more interviews)

      Thanks @cryptodorea!

Definitely, in the future I plan to add the ability to provide feedback on images, links, mockups, etc. But as it's early on, I'm really focusing on founders who need to gather information in Q&A form for now.

In terms of speed, I totally agree! I was just playing around with a slower model for this interview only – all other interviews using Probe are faster. Good to know this model's a little too slow for comfort, lol ;)

      Cheers 🙌

What problem are you solving with this?

Typeform / surveymonkeys taking a longer time to setup?

    1. 1

Hey @frasax! Probe is meant to be a step up from traditional surveys, getting insights more comparable to what you'd expect from a live interview.

Surveys are good for getting surface-level or quantitative info, but you can't ask context-dependent follow up questions. Probe acts more like a live interviewer in that it adapts to your answers, digging deeper than standard surveys. In my experience with surveys, I've never been able to get sufficient data to be comfortable enough to start building. But I've regularly been using Probe to answer all my key questions – and I feel really confident in the level of insights.

(Just a note, the particular interview I linked won't ask follow-ups, but you can demo a more typical interview at heyprobe.com if you'd like 😊)
