Looking for iOS & Android testers for an offline AI nature app (Mutual testing welcome!)

Hey everyone,
I'm building NatureScout - a gamified AI nature exploration app built for families, scout leaders, and everyday nature lovers. Whether you are trying to get your kids off the couch, leading a youth group in the woods, or just hiking a trail on your own, NatureScout turns the outdoors into a real-world game. Just snap a photo of any plant or animal, and our Gemini-powered AI identifies it, adding the discovery to your digital backpack. It's like Pokemon Go for nature.

A quick tech detail we are proud of: The app is highly offline-friendly. If you are deep in the woods without a signal, it doesn't freeze. It queues your catches locally and automatically runs the AI identification the second you are back on the grid.

We are currently in Beta and looking for testers on both platforms:

🍎 iOS Users: You can get instant access to the app via TestFlight. We'd love your harsh feedback on the UX, gamification loop, and overall feel.

🤖 Android Users: I just finished the APK, but we are fighting the dreaded "Google 20 closed testers for 14 days" rule. I urgently need a few more Android folks to help us pass this hurdle so we can launch publicly.

If you want to play around with the beta (or just want to help a fellow indie hacker out), please join the waitlist at: https://naturescout.app/en

Note: I’d be more than happy to test your app in return! Just drop a comment below and let's help each other out.

NatureScout sounds like a genuinely fun concept — the offline queuing for AI identification is smart, that's exactly when you'd want it working (deep in the woods, no signal).

Happy to swap. I'm in the same boat — building Money Me, a personal finance app for Android, also sitting behind Google's closed testing gate needing 12 testers for 14 days before I can go to production.

I'll install NatureScout on my Android and give it a proper test. If you're up for the swap, here's my opt-in link: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.moneyme.twa — drop yours and I'll get on it.

That's great! Do you only have an Android version so far? Are you planning an iOS version too? The thought of finding that many Android testers is daunting! I'll give your app a try.
I'd really appreciate it if you could try NatureScout on Android. Unfortunately, the Android app isn’t ready yet—I’m waiting for Google’s approval. The wait is endless. And I thought Apple’s approval process was complicated.
Could you please sign up for the waitlist? That way, you won’t miss out when the Android app is ready.

Two weeks ago I shipped TestFlight build 11 for my own little iOS app and the smartest decision I made was treating each tester reply like a 1-on-1 interview instead of bug intake. Five of my first eight testers came back with feature ideas I would never have invented from inside the product. The offline-queue detail you mention is the kind of thing testers usually find by accident on a hike — so seeding scenarios ("try this in a basement parking lot") helped me more than open-ended prompts. Sending an iOS tester request your way — happy to trade thorough notes after a real-world walk this week.

    1. 1

This is actually a very good approach and I am also treating testers like that. I do not have many feedbacks yet, just two feedbacks, so it is easy to do that.
Chat with all testers 1-on-1 is a great opportunity to have super real feedback almost instantly and it can also boost the interest. And as you mentioned - I can get new feature ideas!
I'll gladly read anything you find during testing!

Hi Jiri - I have a similar product where users might be in the backwoods and lose signal. I'm using Next JS 16 and its recent caching capabilities. What have you found to be useful for that caching layer?

    1. 1

      Hey! Thanks for reaching out.

To be completely honest with you, I am heavily "vibecoding" this app using AI. I'm not a senior Flutter developer, so I let AI do the heavy lifting.

Since NatureScout is a native mobile app built in Flutter (not a web app like Next.js), the approach is different. There is actually no complex backend involved. Everything happens directly inside the phone.

Here is how it works: When you take a photo offline, the app first compresses the image locally (super important to save mobile data when you only have a weak EDGE signal in the woods). It saves the image to the phone's local storage. Then, the app listens for a strong connection. The moment a good signal is back, it loops through the queued photos and sends them to the AI for identification.

I also added a "manual sync" feature, so users can force the upload themselves when they get back to their car or home Wi-Fi.

So no fancy Next.js caching on my end, just local mobile storage and network listeners orchestrated by AI prompts! How are you handling the background sync in Next 16?

  4. 2

The offline-first part is actually the most interesting piece to me.
A lot of apps quietly fall apart the moment the connection gets unstable, so “queue now, identify later” feels very aligned with the real environment people would actually use this in. I also think the “Pokemon GO for nature” framing is strong because people instantly understand the type of experience you’re aiming for.
At the same time, that probably creates pretty high expectations around progression/reward loops, especially in the first few interactions:

    • how quickly users feel successful
    • whether discoveries feel rewarding enough
    • and how trustworthy the offline sync states feel

Especially for kids/families where even small moments of confusion can break the flow pretty quickly.

    1. 1

That’s exactly the challenge we're dealing with. The "Pokemon GO" label explains the app instantly, but it means the progression loop has to hook kids in the first few minutes.

For the offline sync, building UI trust is tricky. Kids need to see immediately that their rare bug is safely saved, not lost to a loading screen. On the other hand, the rarest species are often hidden deep in the woods. :)

I’d love to get your eyes on the actual flow to see if the rewards feel earned. Are you on iOS or Android?

      1. 1

I’m mainly on iOS right now, but I also have an older Android device I can test on.
Happy to take a look at the actual flow — especially the first few minutes, offline behavior, and how visible/satisfying the progression loop feels for a new user.
The “rare bug saved successfully” moment is probably more important than it first seems. If kids trust the app after that first offline capture, the whole exploration loop becomes much stronger.

        1. 1

Just like in real life. First impressions matter the most. In fact, I often feel the same way about apps, even though I try to be patient and give them a chance.

I'd be really happy if you tried out the app and let me know what you think.

I see you’ve already joined the waitlist, is that right? That’s great! You should have received the test link in your email. Be sure to let me know if you run into any issues, and I can’t wait to hear your feedback. I want to hear everything!

          1. 1

Yep, I joined the waitlist .
And honestly, I think this kind of product lives or dies on emotional momentum more than pure functionality. If the first discovery feels exciting, safe, and “real,” kids will probably want to keep exploring. If the sync state feels uncertain even once, the magic breaks pretty quickly.
I’ll take a proper look at:

            • the first-time experience,
            • how rewarding discoveries feel,
            • and especially how understandable/trustworthy the offline flow feels during actual use.

I’ll send you honest notes once I’ve had some real time with it.

            1. 1

You're absolutely right - that magical first moment will be very important. I'll try to figure out how to make it as good as possible! I believe it will resonate not only with children but also with adults.

I plan to work on the rewards system some more; in the first test version, the whole process is simplified. For example, I plan to add long-term tasks (such as finding 50 different types of plants).

              1. 2

I actually think long-term tasks are a really good direction for this kind of product.
Because once the “oh wow, it recognized this plant” novelty wears off, the app probably shifts from pure curiosity into collection/progression psychology.
And honestly, I could even imagine adults getting surprisingly attached to things like:

                • region-based collections,
                • rare seasonal discoveries,
                • streaks,
                • hidden species,
                • or “I’m only missing 3 more plants from this forest” type goals.

That’s where the experience starts feeling less like a utility and more like an adventure loop people want to come back to. The interesting balance will probably be making progression feel rewarding without turning nature exploration into pure grind/checklist behavior.

                1. 1

That’s exactly the direction I plan to take - shifting from “curiosity” to “collection/progression addiction.”

You’ve actually described my next idea as well: compiling predefined lists of species that users should search for (like Pokémon) based on region. For now, I’m looking for the best way to make this work dynamically for as many users as possible.

I’m a Scout leader, and I actually already have such physical lists for group of children! So the logical next step is to digitize them and build them into the app. What I want to try is making these collections a team effort, so the whole troop or family contributes to completing the "forest checklist" together, which should hopefully prevent it from feeling like a lonely grind.

I really love your “hidden species” idea. I’m definitely making a note of that. Thank you for the great feedback!

                  1. 1

Honestly, the shared/group progression angle sounds much stronger than purely individual collecting.
“Let’s complete this forest together” feels way more emotionally engaging than just checking items off alone.
And I really like that a lot of these ideas come from real scout activities instead of pure gamification theory — that usually makes the experience feel much more natural.

We are looking for an investor who can lend our holding company 300,000 US dollars.

We are looking for an investor who can invest 300,000 US dollars in our holding company.

With the 300,000 US dollars you lend us, we will open a game programming and e-commerce company.

We will use the 300,000 US dollars you invest in our holding company to establish a game programming company and an e-commerce company.

With the 300,000 US dollars budget you will provide to our holding company, we will open a game programming and e-commerce company.

Why would we establish a company in these two business sectors?

The game company we will establish will produce our own game projects and generate significant revenue by publishing our games for a fee on major gaming platforms such as the Play Store, Apple Store, Microsoft Store, and Steam.

We will release the game projects we produce as paid downloads on digital stores, generating significant revenue by charging a fee for each download.

The e-commerce company we will establish will promote our game projects and increase the download rate of our game.

The e-commerce company we will establish will advertise our game projects, helping to introduce our game to a wider audience, and in this way, the download rate of our game will increase rapidly.

In short, our game company will produce game projects and publish these games on digital stores. Our e-commerce company will promote these game projects, increasing download rates and thus generating significant revenue.

By working in coordination between our game company and our e-commerce company, we will create great games and the download rates of the games we make will increase rapidly.

Today, the gaming industry is a large, innovative sector that generates significant returns, so by focusing on the gaming industry, we will achieve substantial income.

Because we have a strong infrastructure and advertising network, and an expert team, we will be able to grow the company rapidly by focusing on the gaming sector.

Since we have the infrastructure ready in the gaming industry, we will be making big money in a short time.

Because the gaming industry is a highly in-demand sector, and because we have a strong infrastructure and foundation, entering this sector will allow us to generate significant revenue.

How will we advertise the game projects we will produce?

We will increase the number of downloads for our game using 5 different advertising tactics.

Thanks to the 5 different advertising tactics we will use, our game will be downloaded by an average of 10,000,000 people in just 2 months.

Thanks to our strong advertising strategy, we will increase our game's download rate in a short time.

    1. Advertising strategy: By continuously promoting our game on global social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X, Telegram, LinkedIn, and TikTok, we will attract a large audience to our game.

    2. Advertising strategy: We have 170 unique social media applications for each country. By using these applications, we will promote our game to many countries and increase its international popularity.

    3. Advertising Strategy: Our game will feature a referral system that will benefit both existing and new users. The system will work as follows: each registered user will receive a unique referral code, which they can share with others to bring in new customers. When a new user registers, they will enter this referral code in the designated field. The system will automatically recognize the code, and the user who shared the code will receive 2 US dollars for each new customer they bring in. Additionally, the new user who registers using the referral code will receive a 20% discount on the game purchase. This will motivate existing users to recommend the game to more people by earning income from their referrals, and will make new users more willing to join thanks to the discount. This will create a rapid and natural spread among users, allowing our game to reach a wider audience and grow quickly.

    4. Advertising strategy: By using advertising platforms like YouTube Ads, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Instagram Ads, we will have our game's promotional video viewed by millions, which will increase the number of downloads.
