People kept making noise in the office, so I made an app...

I don't know how does your co-working works, or whether you even work in an office. Mine is noisy as hell.

People come and go, some talk loudly without really paying attention.
So, instead of us trying to shush them all the time, I just made an automatic shushing app - Shut App.

You're welcome to watch the demo, download it to try it out :-)
It was funny as hell, especially when it kept us quiet as well indistinguishably...

It took 1 day to make - sometimes it's nice to take a break from you "usual" project and improvise something.

haha, I like how the video is similar to a social experiment, but at the same time an ad to the app.

turning an annoying situation to something so creative, I am in awe by your creativity. people indeed be listening to A.I. more than actual humans sadly but none the less I loved the app. kudos!

      Thank you!
Well, that was an "out of options" creativity, as I didn't like the management saying "we can do nothing about it". So it was just taking a side challenge, and the humor aspect was of course a great incentive.
      Cheers

    haha. this is hilarious!🤣

The video gave me a good laugh. That's definitely a useful app to have in many offices and shared workspaces.

  5. 2

Pretty cool. The funny thing is, it actually resolves that noise problem that you might have, specially when going back to the office or even at home when family members just walk up to your room and start talking while you are in a meeting.

  6. 2

Lol! I instantly guessed that it was made by the guy who created the drawing in the sand app - hilarious.

Keep up the great work. I enjoyed your solution and creative brevity, really clever so I decided to cover it in my indie/bootstrap media company: https://www.midasindex.com/currently/people-are-loud-in-your-co-working-spaces-meet-the-shut-app-from-mike-the-app-creator.

Let me know whether you want to set up a text-based interview. I will email you a list of questions you can answer or if you'd prefer to record it—that'll work for me too—and email it back.

    Best Regards, N

Wow, thank you, you really put an effort into writing(!)
It wasn't recognized in SHARK TANK though, it was a cynical joke ;-)

I'm glad you enjoyed reading my piece, I hope I can provide more press coverage for one of your projects. :) My bad will edit it later.

Working on a piece about a different indie-creator write now.

    haha love the video!

Also, there's a legit market in keeping the noise down in hospitals. Noise pollution can cause adverse health outcomes ... perhaps this could be an effective solution!

Thank you! Very interesting... I wonder if there's a screenless Android device with mic / speaker only that you can run apps on, so it will turn IOT instantly :]

      1. 1

I would think so, a way forward towards serious biz would be to turn the phone app into a closed IoT system.

  9. 2

If you are looking for another problem space (outside of the office setting) often classrooms (primary schools) are really nosy, it is draining and double work for teachers to calm kids and run lessons; here bowing down to the mighty app-god :) will work even stronger, kids respect computers more than people. Just a thought.

    1. 1

Sound like a great idea, it's an interesting experiment... on one hand I think they will laugh at it and tease it, but it may force it if it will continue to shush. All depends on their level of discipline I guess :]

  10. 2

Haha, what happens if you put two phones running the app besides each other?

    1. 1

Great thinking - that was my first bug with a single phone - it kept shushing itself in a never ending Shhhhhhhhhhhh loop.
So I added a post "Shh" timeout...

So the expected result is that one phone will trigger the other, or both at once, and that's it :-)

  11. 2

It's been a long while that I have seen humor put back into tech. But jokes aside lets keep the co-working space quiet. I would have gone to the quiet room to solve the problem but hands down for making an app to solve the problem and you know what there is really a market for this.... All the best 👍

    1. 1

Thanks, I have no idea if it has any market... your first guess was right, put the humor into tech :-D

  12. 2

This is awesome — deserves App of the Day :)

I wonder how hard it would be to build for home devices like Alexa Echo or Nest Hub... "Hey Alexa, it's quiet time"

    1. 2

Thanks! Yeah and you could set "Aggression Level" mode to escalate as the noise continue :-)
I always say that you can take 1 simple basic app and it doesn't matter how its purpose seem basic, you will be able to sit and develop it for a year if you'd like to improve it more and more

A fun little project. I remember that we had something similar in the office, but it was a little traffic light instead of making a sound.

You can't really call that room an office though. I couldn't get anything done without a proper desk and a door opening and closing right next to me all the time.

    1. 2

Hehe, that's a nice idea as well... like toilet signaling

  14. 2

Great idea! I love it snd I would definitely use it.

    1. 1

Thanks, keep us posted how it goes :-]

  15. 2

ha ha good one bro, I think this app have other use cases as well like use in schools, colleges during lectures, husband-wife conversations ;-) and more coming in mind will share later. cheers for your new app, will give it a try

    1. 1

Great, let me know how it goes :-]

  16. 2

This is so goooood!!! Congrats on both the idea, the implementation and the marketing! :)

    1. 1

      Mucho Gracias Gabriel :-)

  17. 2

Haha gonna give it a try soon 😆!

  18. 2

This is hilarious. I love it.

Thank you, I'm focused on comedy, you're welcome to sub to the YT channel, more coming up ;-)

  19. 2

Hahaha, SHUT APP! This is really funny, @Mikron

Obviously, this is a fun pet project, but I could see this being really useful in places like nurseries and preschools too. Especially if it came with a hardware component like Furbo or Ring.

    1. 1

      Thank you :-)
Yeah, like "the quiet game" with kids, and libraries, who knows...
Someone once pushed me to use a hardware component named "ring". I ended up married, so I don't know...

You're welcome to sub to the YT channel, more comedy coming up ;-)

      1. 2

Guess I should clarify the use-case. Those places are frequently quiet because kids are asleep. Passerby folks might wake them up, so this subtle "shush" would be rad.

HA! As long as they got you to commit, it sounds like it was a good choice, yea? 😂

  20. 2

This is the funniest thing I've seen on IH in a long time. Keep it up!

    1. 1

      Thanks :-)
The YouTube channel is made for funny tech videos, and more stuff is coming out soon, so you're welcome to give it a sub.
      Thanks again

  21. 2

Haha this was one of most creative ideas and video demonstrations I've seen in a long time. Well done Mike and I really hope this carves itself out a niche!

    1. 2

What a compliment, thank you Pheonix! You can never know... maybe some people will actually use it :-)

Thanks... I'm actually focusing nowadays on video creations, it might be better to create a crowd, and then maybe a product. What do you think?
