Video Fear Conquered!

Have you ever had an irrational fear that held you back?

I did. I know how important video is in growth marketing and building an audience for the Scrappy MarTech newsletter - yet for some reason, I’ve been irrationally avoiding taking the plunge.

I found out I was not alone in being afraid to create video. The indie hacker community is amazingly giving and supportive.

Here are the 5 things that helped me trick myself into taking the plunge:

  1. Publicly take on a dare/build in public
  2. Don't reinvent the wheel
  3. Plan a blooper reel
  4. Have fun with family & friends
  5. Don't let perfect be the enemy of "good enough & done"

I'm so relieved to have launched the Scrappy MarTech YouTube channel. It's not perfect and there are things I will do better moving forward, but it broke down the irrational barrier I had about making videos. Whew!

Shout out to @Mattes3 at Get the Audience and @coreyhaines and the SwipeFile community. Thank you for your support!

Oh, and here's the video about it: "Take the Plunge! Get Over Your Fear and Make that First Video"

Thank you @Revgabba for this valuable video, deconstructing your process for creating such a video – and also thanks for mentioning me. Good luck with your upcoming videos!

Releasing your first video is HARD.

    The fear is real.

What if no one watches it? What if people don't like it? What if someone I know sees it?

These all bounced around my head when I released my first video.

Well done on getting it out there!
