I built a VueJS reverse job board

Hey Indie Hackers 👋🏻,

Last week, I launched a brand new project: a reverse job board for VueJS developers.

This idea had been on my mind for a while. I regularly receive messages from recruiters looking for VueJS experts, and some have confided in me that this type of profile is not always easy to find and hire. Moreover, these recruiters sometimes have specific needs: remote or not, full time or not, able to do a Vue 2 to Vue 3 migration or not, etc.

So I had the idea of this reverse job board. Recruiters can sign up and pay a monthly subscription (which they can of course cancel at any time), and filter the profiles of developers on the platform.

Vue Developers is of course free for the developers 🙌🏻. They must fill out a profile that is as detailed as possible, to appear in the most relevant search results.

There are currently around sixty developers registered on the platform: if we multiply this number by 2 or 3, I'm sure that will be enough to convince recruiters to take an interest in it 🤩!

I can't wait to validate (or invalidate 🥲) this business model, and for the next few weeks, I'll do my best to communicate around it.

What do you think 😊?

The network effect is real. Congrats

Great site, I can see this being really useful. If this is successful for you, would you consider expanding to other disciplines? I would love to quickly search Laravel devs or React Devs etc.

    1. 1

      Thank you 😊

Yes, totally! I already bought some domains ahah

      1. 2

I would suggest to NOT diverse on different domain but keep it centralised. I come up with multiple skill sets and having more Stack focus site would certainly be a great place to find work :) Good job btw.

        1. 1

The split could be done for the recruiters and not necessarily for the developers. Which would eliminate your pain point and still provide value for recruiters that need a React dev for example.
You make your profile once and if you have React and Vue experience you appear on both platforms.

    Hi,
    Great project.
Perhaps you should look at this product - https://djinni.co/hire - it is very similar to what you did - but is designed for any developers.
Perhaps you can find something useful for yourself.

    1. 1

@JackGor , small clarification, the website Djinni is not designed for all developers, but for all people in the IT sphere (developers, QA, designers, SEO specialists, project managers, sales, etc.)

@zahil , probably it would be better to hide personal contact data (email, LinkedIn, ...) from these API endpoints:
      https://www.vue-developers.com/api/developers/get-latest
      https://www.vue-developers.com/api/developers/get-all?q&page=1&sort=id&order=asc

      1. 1

Thank you so much for the heads up 😱 it's fixed now!

    2. 1

I didn't know about this one, thank you 🙌🏻 there aren't a lot of reverse job boards around here

I saw this business model: the platform takes a % over the first salary. It's great and probably makes tons a money, but I find the implementation complicated 🥹. Maybe in the future though!

  4. 2

I find your website user friendly and the layout of the elements is very neat. Why not making it available for other languages as well?

    1. 1

Thank you 😊. It will come at some point 💪🏻 But I want to validate the idea first by getting a few customers

  5. 2

Hey Thomas, not a new idea or a new business model. Two-sided markets are always the most challenging business models to execute. You won't be validating the business model (they do work) but instead validating your ability to execute.

You're correct in focusing on getting that one-side (Vue developers) onto the platform. It will be easier than getting the paying side to commit.

The value is in the data quality so you'll need to make sure it's accurate and up-to-date. I would stick to Vue developers right now as you work to establish product market fit. It's too easy to get distracted and then end up spreading yourself too thin.

    1. 1

You're 💯 right. I'm focusing on Vue until I made a significant amount of money :) thank you Stephen!

  6. 2

Registered. I am hoping to find a good contract from it. One suggestion, developer should be able arrange the skill sets by order. As of now, my top 3 skills are only showing on home page which I can't choose which one and I guess, the recruiters won't go inside until it interests them.

Also, the profile details page URL is not SEO friendly. It would be great if you can add it.

Thank you 🙏🏻 It might take some time before the first recruiters come, but the more developers register, the more chances we've got 😄

You can't change the order of your skills, but you can select those who are displayed on your profile by clicking on them 😊 I'll try to make the UX better!

You're absolute right about the SEO part of the profile page, it's in my short term roadmap!

      1. 2

Give me a shout if you need help. I am a good critic developer :)

  7. 2

This is great! I happen to be a vue developer looking for a new job, so this is perfect.

Just a heads up, after registering, the email confirmation link is flagged by my outlook as unsafe.

Did you use Nuxt UI for this? Your site looks really nice.

    1. 1

      Perfect 😄!!

Yeah it's because I still use Supabase servers to send the emails, I'm going to update this soon

I did :) Nuxt UI and Nuxt UI Pro! Thank you so much 🙏🏻

  8. 2

Congrats. Being a vue dev myself this idea looks great!

    1. 1

      Thank you 🙌🏻

  9. 2

This seems like a great idea.

  10. 2

    Simple and quite objective! 🚀

  11. 2

Looks like a win win for dev and recruiters

    1. 1

If I can gather enough developers, it is 😊

  12. 2

It's a cool idea and a good niche!
I think it will be a good profitable site!!

    1. 2

Thank you so much 🙌🏻 I really hope so!!

  13. 1

Congratulations on the launch! UI of the website looks really slick!

  14. 1

Thank you for creating this website. In some regions, the Vue ecosystem doesn't seem as active as React's. This website is helpful for Vue developers and the Vue ecosystem.

  15. 1

Noticed you went lemonsqueezy over Stripe.
    Curious to learn: how come?

  16. 1

Congratulations on your launch! The website is easy to use and easy on the eyes too. For the sign-up, I would to recommend integrating Google, Linkedin, and possibly Facebook. As you already know, most recruiters are already logged in to either Google or Linkedin. So when they see your SaaS, they can easily sign-up with their Google or LinkedIn.

    1. 1

      Thank you :) !

You're absolutely right, it make sense. I'm going to add at least Google and Linkedin 👍🏻
